That's what I'm guessing the original poster was referring to.
FWIW, Verizon said that caller ID name delivery to landlines would start
for Atlanta customers 8/1, but it hasn't started working yet. :( I'm
used to having this work with both Powertel/VS and Sprint PCS.

In Kansas City, it just shows number and -wireless call- still for both VZ
and Cingular numbers.

FWIW, we receive "ALLTEL WIRELESS" for their calls, as well as "PCS PHONE
NC" for other carriers.

When I did mine, it showed the number, but the name displayed as out of
area.

FWIW, the LG V111 will show the name if you have it programmed into memory,
which is nice... not aware if any others do this (but considering this is a
low-end phone, I'd hope so).

That's odd -- I'd expect you'd see at least city/state...(provided
your landline carrier is BellSouth and not an independent.)

Every recent phone I've ever seen from any carrier, CDMA or otherwise,
does this. (My StarTAC 7868, which has four entries for numbers per
name, even shows the icon for the "type" of number [home, work, etc.]
on incoming calls.)
AFAIK there is no way to deliver name TO a cell phone, with CDMA or
any other protocol. Thus the phones "fudge" by looking up in memory.

A bit of a history lesson, also. When I opened my Charlotte account with
BANM in 1995, calls to a landline phone from my cell would show up with
"METRO MOBILE" in the name. I don't know how long after the BANM/Metro
Mobile buyout this was.

I have a StarTac 7868W and on page 28 it states that it will show the
callers name if it has been programmed into the phone book, other wise it
will only show the number.
I can set it to always see the number if I wish by setting <phone
book><number prefer><on>.
Nothing like consistency!

Stop complaining - Verizon is consistently inconsistent. :)
