I always have a devil of a time figuring out how to set the one-touch
speed dial on the USA Motorola RAZR V3, partially because:
- It's not intuitive (to me anyway) how to set a RAZR V3 speed dial
- Everyone skips steps when explaining how to do it on the net!
- My address book is a mix of numbers saved in either the PHONE or SIM
- It's a different procedure for phone entries versus SIM entries
- It's different for different carrier's Motorola V3 RAZR phones

Mine is a USA unlocked (AT&T originally) Motorola RAZR V3.
Help: If I made a mistake below, please correct as needed.

To set a speed dial for SIM contacts, here's what I did:

View only SIM contacts:
- From the main screen highlight the "Address Book" & hit "Select"
-- You should see a list of address book entries
- Press the "Dash" button to get the "Address Book Menu"
- Scroll to the "Setup" entry in that menu & hit "Select"
- In the resulting "Address Book Setup" menu, scroll to "View Contacts"
- Press the "Change" button to get to the "View Contacts" menu
- Scroll to "SIM Contacts Only" & hit "Select"
-- You may get a message of "Changed: View Contacts by SIM Contacts Only"
- Press "Back" to return to the sim-contacts only "Address Book" list
-- Note the "Address Book" title now shows a simulated SIM card

Set a SIM contact speed dial:
- From the main screen highlight the "Address Book" & hit "Select"
-- You should see a list of address book entries in the SIM card
-- You should see a little SIM card icon to the right of "Address Book"
- Highlight the SIM contact you want for speed dial "2" & press "View"
- In the resulting "Details (SIM)" menu, press the "Edit" button
-- This brings you to the "Entry Details" menu
-- You should see a line like this: "Speed No.: 1011#(S)
-- Note: Your number will differ but it will be a four-digit number!
- Highlight the "Speed No.:" line and press "Change"
-- This brings you to the "Speed No.:" menu where you'll see 3 lines
-- 1011# <== your number may differ
-- (SIM Card)
-- SIM: 1001-1250
- Press the "Delete" button twice to remove the "11"
- Press the "02" keys to add "02"
-- The result should be these three lines:
-- 1002#
-- (SIM Card)
-- SIM: 1001-1250
- When you are ready, press "OK"
-- This brings up the "Replace" screen, which asks:
-- "Replace the existing speed dial entry for this position?"
- Press "Yes"
-- The result should be 3 lines in the "Entry Details" menu
-- Name: Jane Doe
-- Number: 123-456-7890
-- Speed No.: 1002#(S)
- Press "Done"
-- You may get the question "Duplicate Entry Jane Doe Store anyway?"
-- If so, press "Yes".
-- You should see a green checkmark saying "Changed Jane Doe"
- Press the "Back" button to get to the "Address Book (SIM)"
- Press the "Exit" button twice to get to the main screen
-- To test: Simply press and hold down the "2" button.
-- This should call the desired "SIM" contact using that speed dial.

Note: To set a speed dial for PHONE contacts, here's what I did:

View only PHONE contacts:
- From the main screen highlight the "Address Book" & hit "Select"
-- You should see a list of address book entries
- Press the "Dash" button to get the "Address Book Menu"
- Scroll to the "Setup" entry in that menu & hit "Select"
- In the resulting "Address Book Setup" menu, scroll to "View Contacts"
- Press the "Change" button to get to the "View Contacts" menu
- Scroll to "Phone Contacts Only" & hit "Select"
-- The message will be "Changed: View Contacts by Phone Contacts Only"
- Press "Back" to return to the phone-contacts only "Address Book" list
-- The "Address Book" menu title will be "* AddressBook #" with no icon

Set a Phone contact speed dial:
- From the main screen highlight the "Address Book" & hit "Select"
-- You should see a list of addressbook entries from the phone memory
- Highlight the phone contact you want for speed dial "2" & press "View"
- In the resulting "Details" menu, press the "Edit" button
-- This brings you to the "Entry Details" menu
-- You should see a line like this: "Speed No.: 9#(P)
-- Note: Your number will differ but it will be a one-digit number!
- Highlight the "Speed No.:" line and press "Change"
-- This brings you to the "Speed No.:" menu where you'll see 3 lines
-- 9# <== your number may differ
-- (Phone Memory)
-- SIM: 1001-1250
- Press the "Delete" button once to remove the "9"
- Press the "2" key to add "2"
-- The result should be these three lines:
-- 2#
-- (Phone Memory)
-- SIM: 1001-1250
- When you are ready, press "OK"
-- You may get a red X & "Location 2 in use"
-- If it's in use already, you'll have to separately delete it
-- Otherwise, you'll get the "Replace" screen, which asks:
-- "Replace the existing speed dial entry for this position?"
- Press "Yes"
-- The result should be these lines in the "Entry Details" menu
-- Name: Jane Doe
-- Mobile: 123-456-7890
-- Voice Name: Jane
-- Speed No.: 2#(P)
- Press "Done"
-- You may get the question "Duplicate Entry Jane Doe Store anyway?"
-- If so, press "Yes".
-- You should see a green checkmark saying "Changed Jane Doe"
- Press the "Back" button to get to the "Address Book"
- Press the "Exit" button twice to get to the main screen
-- To test: Simply press and hold down the "2" button.
-- This should call the desired "phone" contact using that speed dial.

TO USE A ONE-TOUCH NUMBER (THESE ARE KEYS # 1 THROUGH # 9):
- Press and hold the number key (for example, 2) for two seconds
- This will dial the phone number associated with that key.

TO USE A SPEED DIAL NUMBER (“10” THROUGH “999):
- Press the number keys for that speed dial number (for example, 22).
- Press the # key.
- Highlight "Work" "Mobile" "Home" or whatever number you want to dial
- Press the green "Send" button to dial the number

Note: If you know of BETTER references, please append.
Also if you see an error (or a simpler method), please append.
However, DO NOT SKIP STEPS! (that's the whole point)
And be sure to test it on both SIM contacts & PHONE contacts!

One problem with the Motorola RAZR V3 is that only the numbers stored in
the phone can have a custom ringer ID. Those stored in the SIM card
cannot have a ringer ID.

Also note SIM speed numbers are in the 1001 to 1250 range while PHONE
numbers are in the lower 1 to 1000 range.

To view your contact at, say, "1099(S)", use this process:
1 0 9 9 #

To speed dial that contact at "1099(S)", use this process:
1 0 9 9 # [green button]

Thank you SO much for this. I just got a used RAZR and while I was able to figure everything else out that I needed to, this was kicking my butt. You helped me get this done in ten minutes what I've literally spent hours trying to do. Again, thank you.
