I have one of those $30 "Walmart" prepaid plan that gives me plenty of
talk time, texting and mobile data. I just returned from a month-long
vacation in Europe where I bought and used a local SIM card in my
dual-SIM LG phone. I did not use it to call any US numbers with it but I
did get a few unsolicited texts and even MMS messages from US. I did not
think they could reach me in Europe as I did not have any roaming
allowance on my phone and I only used the local SIM card as the active
one. I figured maybe it was some kind of special deal between American
and European T-Mobile carriers because both SIM cards were from them. I
was surprised, however, when upon my return I noticed that the US
T-Mobile charged me more than the monthly $30 which they could do
because I hade $60 balance when I left for Europe. So now my balance was
something like $49 which I could not really round up again to multiple
of $30 as I used to do before. Refills tend to be in such multiples
unfortunately which means that I could not terminate my service with
zero balance left, either. Frankly I don't even know how they arrived at
these extra charges as prepaid customers don't get detailed bills. Does
anybody know a way to find that out? I don't have a good experience with
calls to T-Mobile.

No one but T-Mobile can answer your question. Your only opton is to
talk to them. My experience with them has been good.

I just thought I should first ask around if anybody has similar
experience. Just so I know what to expect when I call them.

OK, so I called them up and you were right: the rep was much more
accommodating than I remember last time I called them. When I told them
that most of those text messages I got in Europe were due to two-factor
authentication from US banks, the rep decided to add back the deducted
fees to my balance so it is now back again to multiples of $30.
