Recently I've received several voice mails without my phone ringing
first. Then, when I try to play the voice mail messages, all I get is
silence. I just found out that today's voice mail was actually from my
optician notifying me that I can pick up my new glasses. I found this
out because I called them up and when I was told that they were ready
and then I asked why was I not notified, they told me that they just did
call me today. So that must have been today's silent voice mail for me.
Who knows how many others I had before without knowing whom from.

Any ideas what's going on here before I get in touch with T-Mo support?

Dunno about the silent v-mail, but I get _plenty_
of calls where my phone doesn't ring at me, and
the caller goes to v-mail

Even that sounds abnormal to me unless there is some kind of setting
where you can actually forward calls directly to VM.

calls going directly to voicemail can occur if there are no voice
channels available (i.e., cell at capacity).

there are also reports of spammers exploiting methods to leave
voicemail spam without ringing the phone, but if they did that, it
presumably wouldn't be silent.
