Bought a new phone. It has smaller SIM card than old phone.
Instructions are to go to website t-mobile.com/sim to transfer from
old sim to new. Have tried that and it only re-directs to the
myT-mobile account sign in page. Sign in OK, but no link appears
regarding SIM card.

See steps 5 & 6 on this Support page

https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-4677

Has anybody actually used this process ?

you can cut your old sim (or buy a sim cutter which makes it a lot
easier), or just go to a t-mobile store and they'll swap it on the
spot. you can also call to have them transfer it but good luck on
getting someone who knows what to do.

Just did it on a new phone a few weeks ago.

Assuming that you have the new SIM card,

Log in to my.t-mobile.com

Click the "PHONE" button near the top of the screen.

On the right side of the resulting display should be "Activate device or
change SIM"; click it.

You'll need to enter the SIM card number from the plastic card the SIM
card was stuck in when you bought it.

Do you mean: it *requires* a smaller SIM card than old phone?
Or: it *came with* a smaller SIM card than the old phone?

If the former, then you or a T-Mobile store just need to cut your current
SIM card down to size, so it can fit in the new phone's SIM carrier tray.

If the latter, then you need to transfer your account registration from the
older, larger SIM to the newer, smaller one, again either yourself (on the
web or at the 1-800-WEST-WYR Cust Svce line) or at a T-Mo Store.

HTH. Cheers, -- tlvp

It came with the smaller card. Did not want to risk cutting old card.

I gave up trying to use the T-Mobile website. Never could find a link
to start the "upgrade". t-mobile.com/sim does not work as advertised.
Finally called the toll-free number that was printed on the SIM card
carrier 1-877-234-4299. Nice tech named Dave made it work.

Thanks to all who tried to help.

Even when it was provided to you in this newsgroup in a direct reply to
your initial question?

Exactly.

I tried about 10 or 15 times to follow the instructions at
https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-4677

Nowhere could I find a link to "Upgrade your SIM". I suspect that may
be because I am on a "Legacy Pay as You Go" plan, and my old Nokia
6030 phone is now 8 years sold ,and is "not supported" anymore by T-M,
even though I bought it at a T-M kiosk.

Bert,

And yes I also tried your specific instructions, to whit:
"Log in to my.t-mobile.com

Click the "PHONE" button near the top of the screen.

On the right side of the resulting display should be "Activate device or
change SIM"; click it. "

Again, that link did not appear anywhere.

Yeah. My unpleasant experiences with my.t-mobile.com suggest that its
dynamic HTML presents radically different sites, with massively different
behavior, to different logins. So I'm not surprised :-) . Cheers, -- tlvp
