Hi all,

I'm looking for the best, most reliable phone to use as my internet
connection in a trade show. I just bought a 4900 and have been
experimenting with it. Using the RadioShack cable, the connection
happens flawlessly, with better-than-dialup speed (although a
significant lag) WinXP reports 230Kbps connection and bandwidth test
show regularly 100-150Kbps (metropolitan Oklahoma City... an oxymoron,
perhaps!) Also, I know I can make the powered-USB hack on the cable
and intend to do so if I keep the phone.

However, after several minutes of usage, I do tend to get outages which
eventually renew themselves, or I can reconnect and fix it that way.
Herein lies the problem - I need a reliable connection that I don't
need to babysit during the show.

So, will the 5350 be a better choice for my application? I haven't
called around, but I suspect the USB cable is harder to come by, and I
haven't found instructions on how to implement that hack with the 5350
(is it necessary?) I need to know if the 5350 has a more stable and
as-fast connection.

Thanks for any input!

4900 is the best phone period.

In my opinion. :D

some others have posted that a free 'ping' utility will keep the connection
open. It sounds to me like this is a known problem on the 4900.

Others, please give details on that utility site again :)

Thanks,
Ben

Just a suggestion, but go to winamp or some online radio player and find
some radio station
that has a fairly slow data rate and start it playing. Turn your volume
off or down real low.
This keeps the phone connected.

I have the 5350 and I am happy with it. Don't know if it the best though.
$199 5350+ $50 for Sprint's data cable. You may be able to beat the
price on the phone, I had to work with my local "Sprint Sales Rep!"
