I'm 90% sure of getting an 8310 at the end of the month, is there any
problems/faults I should be aware of on this handset?

I've had one for a month, only thing that I don't like is that you can't set
the keypad to auto lock after a certain time, you have to do it manually..
Apart from that I like mine..

John Murphy speaking.

Yes it has a Nokia badge on it and Nokias are notoriously unreliable.
Get an Ericsson T68 or a Samsung T100.

Hahaha.
Since when have they been "Notoriously Unreliable" may I ask..?
I've owned 3 nokia phones. All of which were fine. Reason of 3, was...:
3 years ago, Got my very first cell phone. Nokia 918.
Then 2 years ago... I got my first Digital Cell phone, Nokia 5160.
Now most recently, I've got a Nokia 8390 (Canadian/American version of the
8310.)

I absolutely love it. Gonna get my software upgraded to the latest 7.7 or
7.8 tho. 7.0 restarts sometimes. But no, its not a problem, it usually
does it a few minutes after I hang up from talking to someone. Never
restarted when I'm doing anything on it. And its only a 4 second wait.
Whoopty-doo, some people freak out about that and buy a new cell phone
because *gasp* it restarted!
Personally I dont really care about that, I just want some of the new
features (Chat) and better signal reception that will be improved in the
newer software =) Or so I've heard from many (and I repeat) Many people.
(going from 0 - 1 bars, up to 3-4)

(By the way, Im 16 and from Canada)

I have had an 8510 V 5.06 for 4 months and it has been fine.

I have also had an Ericsson T39 which has been repaired twice and finally
exchanged (still faulty in the last 8 months) and a T28 which had also been
repaied twice (traded it for the T39)

Get the Nokia, I have also had 4 previous models dating back to 1996! They are
the best!

also it loved to say "insert sim", when there was a sim in there

that is also a software bug

i am loving my t68i, a beter phone in terms of features and design,
also with the benfit of no bugs!!! also rarer!!!

ok, the menu's are a tiny bit slower, but do I care? No! to be free of
bugs is better

BENEFITS OF T68i OVER 8310

Colour screen
Bluetooth
Better battery
MMS
Facility for a camera to be attached
Tri-band
More games
Background (in colour) instead of a logo
Ringtone composer

BENEFITS OF 8310 OVER T68i

Built in radio (you can buy a radi that plugs in the bottom of the
T68i for about £15)
Slightly quicker menu

They are the same weight and roughly the same size.

Then again theres the 2 other nokia models that have BUILT IN cameras, but I
think their kinda ugly, so nah.

The 7210 hasn't got bluetooth!!!!!!!!!!!!

the T68i is supposed to be a direct rival to the 8310, but it kicked
its ass, and showed Nokia you have to put new features in small
phones!!!

still cant believe that they didnt put bluetooth in the 7210

Maybe someday in the future they'll have EVERYTHING in their phones =D hehe
until then, we'll just have to sacrifice one thing for another... but hey
bluetooth isnt on the top of my list, I could live without it =) bluetooth
accessories are expensive!
