Has anyone been able to get this phone from AT&T in the last month? They
keep telling me that it is backordered, however the local mom and pop shops
that want $500.00 (and it is the AT&T version not the Cingular or Verizon)
for this phone keep getting them in stock. any thoughts.

Thanks
Z

They recalled it from the store for some software issues. It had to do with
battery life, and call handling.

I realize there's only a slim possibility someone 'in the know' is tracking
this topic, but what the heck, I'll ask my questions anyway.

Is there rough idea when it'll be back on the store? Weeks? Months?

Did anyone get one of them during the short period it was on the webstore?
What are your thoughts about it? What's the battery life like? How's the
UI? What's the call quality? How would does it compare it to the StarTac?
Does the V60 UI have an indicator (on the outside caller ID display) that
shows whether you have voice or SMS messages?

And I'd like to know how good it is on sensing incoming calls. That may
sound like a strange question, so I'll describe the background to it: I have
a strange problem where my office at work is a 'cell phone deadzone'. The
StarTac shows plenty of signal strength bars, but 9 times out of 10, if
someone calls my cell number while I'm sitting at my desk, well, the phone
just doesn't work. If I step outside my office, my cell will start
receiving calls. So my question is probably: do you find yourself missing
more or less calls with the V60 than you did with your earlier AT&T
cellphone?

What's the possibility/probability that it'll be flashable to newer firmware
rev? If it's zero then I wouldn't want to buy it from any source! If it is
flashable, perhaps I'd be willing to take a chance on it (from a brick &
mortar store, not the webstore).

Thanks,

Craig

How do they recall a phone that they don't have in stock? :)

I hope that the comment about a battery issue is correct as that is my
only complaint with the phone - my battery life is not particularly
great. As far as call handling goes, I've seen a few strange things
but not enough to be any sort of nuisance, and the tower I live by (6
blocks away - good signal :) - usually ) has been acting up.

I've had the phone for just over a month with 35+ hours on it and
would not trade it for anything (except a warranty exchange once the
recall bugs are fixed.) I've been particularly happy with reception -
I am in a shielded building and with my 8260 I could never use the
phone (A or B side) I'm able to use my v60t just fine on the B side.

I understand what you mean by that. I had a Startac before and it annoyed me
when it would not receive calls while the signal bars were all the way up. My
calls would go straight to my voicemail almost half the time, I just couldn't
stand it.

I had a customer call yesterday and he was told from AT&T (FWIW) that
they should be available again around Dec. 15. We'll see.

I got mine during the 3 day window that AT&T National Business
Ordering had the phone so I've had it a little over a month. I like
the phone alot, my only complaint is with battery life. On the other
hand, I'm very happy with the reception as I can use the phone where I
previously could not use either my StarTAC or Nokia 8260. Call and
sound quality is great - right up there with my StarTAC and 8260 and
much better than the 3360.

Yes, it does have the status indicator and LCD which show missed
messages, etc, however, the status LED only flashes while the message
is being left and the external LCD will clear the message after some
period of time.

I've had the problem you mention with my Nokia 8260 - have never seen
the problem with my v60 but it seems to have better reception. I miss
much less calls.

I don't know if it is flashable or not - I'm not concerned however as
if a new firmware becomes available I plan on warrantying the phone
anyway.

Though slightly off the topic, my 2 cents on this is that I would stay away
from Motorola phones. I have posted my experiences in alt.cellular.motorola,
but in a nutshell, their repair department is just awful. We have sent
several phones back to them (Texas) and had horrible experiences.

We have seen a sharp decline in their "service" over the last year or so and
its very disheartening.

I got the v60t phone in nov! itz an awesome phone. sound quality is
great and it is the best phone I ever had. I owned a Nokia 8860, 8890,
6162,6160. One of the koolest phone on the market as of now. I don't
have a problem spending a few bucks for a good phone either. I usually
use 750 pk time mins and 5000+ nites and weekends. This phone works
great on the At&T system. I ive in sf bay area.

I am very happy for you and hope that you never need to send it to Motorola
for service, they are just awful.

I got one three weeks ago and I love it. The Verizon version has a brighter
screen and it sounds equally as good. But ATT has the all night plans etc.
Just go to BestBuy and buy one for Cingular and then place it on ATT service.
It will work.

How can i do that. Wont AT&T tell me that the esn isnt "registered" to
their networ?. And if they do activate it for me will the text messaging
still work?

Thanks

If you call customer service (from another phone) and ask them to activate
it, they can reprogram the NAM and register the ESN with their network. And
once that's done, yes, the text messaging will work, though you should check
and make sure AT&T has the feature enabled on your account.

this may seem loke a really stupid question, but will the screen read "AT&T"
or "CINGULAR" if i do all that you say?

thanks

I know that on a Nokia TDMA phone, the name displayed is based on the
network the phone is on; so, within a few hours of AT&T reprogramming the
phone, it would find its way onto AT&T's network, so yes, it would switch
from saying Cingular to AT&T.

(If you're in an area with both networks, you should be able to go to menu
System > Manual on a Nokia and see a list with both AT&T and Cingular in
it.)

I would expect Motorolas to work the same way, but I can't say for sure,
having less experience with them.

Yes, they will...but that doesn't really matter. It will, however,
take a little longer for the activation to take place(they will have
to manually enter the ESN into their database, this usually takes a
couple of days) After that your phone will be fine, and the text
messaging will work as well.
