Hi Eddie,
A few weeks ago I went down the USCellular office here in
Gainesville, Fl., and they told me ATTWireless was going to take them
over. What they said was that ATTwireless was going to take some
USCellular areas over in exchange for some areas that USCellular wanted
in the west. They even though ATTWireless may take over USCellular,
USCellular's name will remain the same. But the profits will be going to
ATTWireless.
If a rep from ATTWIreless or USCellular is reading any of this,
could they give me an update this is or has taken place yet?
And those of us who live in ATTWireless extended area, will we
beable to switch to a national plan as appose to the local plan I seem
to be stuck on now?
I have a parent still living in Long Island, NY, I have to
beable to go to both states without paying those lousy roaming fees.
Can anyone tell me if ATTWireless works good on Long Island, NY?
I was up there about a year ago with my present phone, whether it was a
tdma or a gsm phone it worked well when I was there then. But how is
there coverage now? Does anyone have info about that.
I know verizon works well there also, without all the problems
ATTW. is having some area problems switching over to gsm or gprs.
Eddie thanks for responding to my inquiry.

This is true should happened shortly after the first of the year. Give or
take a little depending on the progress. The assumption is that Gainesville
will be like any other part of the network & be eligible for National plan
inclusion. This is really good because they are also getting the rest of
the panhandle too. If you don't mind losing a few minutes to your plan
there would be no reason to stay on the Local plan as the National would
give you all of Florida plus the rest of the network. I have heard
conflicting reports on the GSM side though. It may be there when they make
the changeover but will probably take a few more moths to implement.

Thanks Bruce for the information, and as long as my father (80 years
old) stays healthy, I wouldn't have to switch carriers. To beable to use
a phone in Long Island, New York. Which reminds me, I haven't heard yet
anything about ATTW sevice is in New York. Does anybody know who the
best carrier with the best reception is in Long Island, NY?
I have great coverage in Fl., si if the coverage in Long Island is
good with ATTW I'll stay with them until after 1st of the year, has
anyone heard anything "bad" about Verizon in Long Island, NY?

I was under the impression that US Cellular was currently a patchwork
of TDMA/CDMA networks, and is currently in the process of switching
its entire network to the CDMA 1xRTT technology; completing the switch
in early 2004. Would AT&T Wireless stop this transition, or are they
just taking over the TDMA markets?

It's less of a patchwork--USCC sold most of its Florida and
all of its south Georgia TDMA markets. The only market USCC
didn't sell to ATTWS is where they compete directly on
cellular.
