You could be the angriest person I've come across. At least you are venting
on the newsgroup. Hope you aren't venting on the wife and kids. You
probably didn't mention it because of obvious reasons but another good place
to donate old phones are battered women's shelters.
Well I am pretty happy with my phone and my service and if I dropped them, I'd
still lose my number. But my wife will be going with T Mobile I guess- unless
ATT sweetens the deal to at least close to what T mobile is offering,
You are right. I have decided at this time that I may well go on and switch my
number.
You might consider waiting a few weeks until number portability goes
into effect. Perhaps a different carrier will allow you to put phones
in different areas into a shared plan.

It's not just restricted to Wireless carriers, either; it's happened
to me with landline phone service, cable, etc. I've learned to just
not trust commisioned sales reps; before I buy anything I call a care
representative and double-check the sales promise. More often than
not, there is some "inconvenient detail" that the sales rep has left
out. I also try to go into a retail location and work with an actual
person whenever possible. At least that way I have a name and face so
I can walk back in to the store and speak directly with a manager.
