I'm familar with doing circuit switched data using my Siemens S40 &
Bosch 718.

Has anyone tried to use the S46 with the data cable connected to a PC
either with GPRS or dialing an ISP through a circuit switch connection?

I tried dialing my ISP with the S46. It dialed but it didn't connect.

When I tried installing the GPRS set-up software it failed with an error
message that it couldn't find the phone. However I have been able to
sync the S46 with Outlook.

I called AT&T advanced network support, but they don't have any
experience or training on the S46 yet. They had me install the Mobile
Connection software, but it doesn't appear to support the S46 yet.

I plan to call Siemens this week. In the meantime, has anyone gotten
data to work on the S46.

Please drop me an email if you've gotten data to work. Thanks in
advance for any assistance.

Yes.

here's what I did for win2k

Do not bother with the software they give you with the phone.

Set up a new modem in the control panel. tell windows you'll
pick a modem from the list. Pick Generic V.90 modem connected to
your serial port.

Now just set up the computer to dial *99# using this modem. and login
with any user name and password. Win2k will get DNS servers, ip
address, default route, and everything else automatically.

Getting it working with FreeBSD was somewhat harder. It turns out
that putting
nopcomp
noaccomp
novj
novjccomp
in /etc/ppp/options makes this work nicely. again just dial
*99# in the chat script and don't bother with anything to
do autentication (it will do CHAP authentication, but the result
is always acceptable, something like)
* * *
in /etc/ppp/chap-secrets does the trick.
DNS servers can be found at 10.250.1.10 and 10.250.1.11
