Bought phone from ebay, it's verizon need to make it work on alltel???

Hey can somebody please help me,

i bought a phone online a motorola v60c, which is a verizon phone, but is a
triband cdma phone so is compatible with alltel networks/service. i called
alltel customer service and they would be of no help, tole me some b.s.
response like " doesnt have the gps locator in it so we cant help you" i
know it works they just wont have it because ofcourse i didnt buy the phone
through them. i have a phone presently, a motorola t720 which is
activated on the alltel network, but is broken and cannot be used. how do
i make the full transition with this verizon tri-band CDMA phone to make it
work with my alltel service, please reply to this as soon as possible, im
frustrated already over it. thanks a lot!

Don't call Alltel customer service. Go into your local Alltel center. Take
your old phone and your new one. Tell them that you have been looking at
the Razor phone and really thinking about switching to that (ATT), but if
they would hook your number up to the v60c, you would be happy keeping your
account with Alltel for awhile.

My local Alltel service center switched my out of contract Verizon phone to
Alltel no problem.

yeah thanks thast a good idea, but i just prgorammed it by myself and told
those idiot tech guys that i needed to switch esn numbers cause my pone was
broke, and told them i got a motorola v60 new version and they just went
with it, the first time they turned me down but then i called back and got
someoen different and it worked out ok so now i got it going haha thanks to
a little deception.

The manufacturers customize the phones for the different cell phone companies
to meet the specific needs of the individual companys' networks. Therefore, a
phone from a different cell phone company won't work on ALLTEL's network.

You could buy an ALLTEL phone from ebay but make sure a) the seller lives in a
city where alltel has service, b) the seller is willing to issue you a refund
for the phone if ALLTEL finds the phone will not work.

Everyone will find that no cell service provider in the US will activate a
non-e911 phone within their network. This is due to the enhanced 911
regulations that are now in full effect. A service provider doing so would
be fined if discovered.

If anyone wishes to buy a used phone and get it to work within a service
providers network they must be sure that they (1) have an already active
account with that service provider, (2) purchase a phone that can be
reprogrammed with the ESN and PRL of the existing phone on that pre-existing
active service.

Utility software is available by searching the net. It is available for
download to a determined mind. You'll also need a data cable to hook your
phone to your PC, and the Service Programming Code (SPC) for the phone you
wish to change. You'll need software that will change the ESN (Electronic
Serial Number), and the Preferred Roaming List (PRL). You will in essense be
'cloning' your existing phone. I did it on my Kyocera CDMA triband, and was
able to create 3 phones all operating on the same active account, so I know
it's possible.

Sorry about the aGPS baloney. A consumer can put most any compatible phone
on their existing line, as the aGPS requirement is only for new phones.
They are under some self imposed FCC pressure to make sure phones are all
aGPS, but should not have been a factor in your case. The fact that it came
from Verizon, isn't an issue. They should NOT have given you any trouble,
but glad it worked out. glad you persevered.

Not true: there is no rule about activating a used phone without aGPS. The
rule is for new phones. I asked the FCC. It started our harmlessly, trying
to get a phone with aGPS for a hard-of-hearing person. The FCC said they
don't regulate used phones, and if Alltel gives you a hard time, it is their
policy, not the FCC. The law allows you to activate YOUR non aGPS phone,
what it does prohibit by penalty, is any major carrier from "selling you a
new phone" that does not have aGPS. Ignore that many places don't have the
technolog to support aGPS anyway. Your public dollars may not be going to
911, and there is little you can do about it. Non aGPS phones can be put
onto a line of service, as long as you provide it. Hold tough, it will work
out.
