Screen not working (properly) Samsung SGH-X450

Hi
I have a Samsung SGH-X450 - where
1) the backlight comes on when I turn it on, but not screen
2) when the alarm goes off, there is a picture, except it looks
"tilted" like a old TV set with H sync failing
Any ideas anyone?
