That should be Berkshires.

I assume from your address that you're somewhere in the general vicinity
of Albany, in which case you could contact the Helderberg Hudson Grotto
or the RPI outing club. If you happen to know Alan Traino you should
talk to him, too.
There are quite a few caves in the Berkshires, and many of them are in
marble. Maybe you went to Eldon French Cave (named for one of your
ancestors perhaps?) but you shouldn't have forgotten its name. It's
often known simply as Eldon's, too. It's just a short distance from the
NY border, and is one of the prettiest marble caves in the northeast.
Unfortunately, the owner doesn't permit access. If you went to a
different cave, there are plenty of choices, so you'll need to recall a
few details.

Thanks. That's the one - I thoought "French" was part of the name, but
didn't want to prejudice any replies in case I was wrong. It sure is a
beautiful cave, and it is too bad it is closed. I could probably have
dredged up the name from one of my old coving buddies, but happened to think
of the question while I was visiting some other news groups.
Thanks again.
