Sebastian took up a new hobby: getting himself beat up by larger feral
toms. He also took up attacking his house mates.

The problem seems to be that he wants to be alpha cat but Fleagor
won't yield the position, and won't fight him either.

Sebo came to me from a woman who found him 'living' out of a fast food
place's dumpster but had two elderly cats of her own and couldn't keep
him. Since then both of her cats died from their long standing
medical conditions and she was in need of another cat just about the
time I decided I needed to find Sebo a home where he could be the
alpha, or only, cat (before one of those feral toms seriously injured
or killed him) and she agreed to take him after the Xmas break. I
tranqualized him and brought him to work today, and she has already
taken him home. He should be happier - and much safer - once he
adjusts to the new environment.

I expect somebody is going to get in my case for giving the cat to a
student, but Tracy is special: mid thirties, divorced, *two* BS
degrees and working on her masters. She's a committed cat lover.

Naw. Nobody is going to get on your case for re-homing a rescue. You can't keep
them all! Sounds like he is going to a great place.

(Why do you tell us then? ;-) We would not have known would we?)

All the best to Sebastian the Toe Man!

Hey you did the right thing by everyone it seems...

In the end as far as I am concerned..its ALL about safety, health and
happiness for ALL involved...humans and animals alike...

Best wishes to all of you...
And give yourself credit for making a very wise decision for all involved...

Like Sherry said...cant keep them all (no matter how much we would want
to...Hell sometimes that makes things worse)

That apartment has had cats living there for almost four years now,
and Sebo was the first to discover the hole leading from the bathroom
closet to the space under the bathtub. He's hiding there. He was
tranqualized when he went in the hole so he wasn't particulary scared
when let out of the carrier in the bathroom. I told Tracy to make sure
some light leaked past the closet door so he could find his way out.

Yeah, sometimes these aggressive cats drive off gentle ones. I'm
pretty sure I lost Llewlyn to Boots' agression, and Punkin has been
staying away for longer and longer periods since Sebo became agressive
- she's been gone since the first of the year this time and I'm now
worried that something happened to her. She's a superb hunter who can
feed herself, so it's possible she went feral.

Update: After hiding under Tracy's bathtub for fourteen hours, he came
out about 10 PM Friday night. He ate some tuna and got his head
scratched (he likes that). He was unhappy that he couldn't get back
into the hiding place.

Tracy tried to put him back in the carrier and discovered that he is a
large, strong, strong willed, cat who doesn't like carriers. She was
practicing for when she takes him to the vet for a checkup - he
already missed one appointment while hiding. He may miss the next one
because the transmission in her truck failed and her only other
transport is her bicycle.

I know this is an OLD post, but Sebastian is an OLD cat. :-)

I'm the Tracy who first found him and then took him back when he started to get into trouble.

He's still alive, although arthritic and in the beginning stages of CKD. Up until about a year ago, he was still an avid hunter, but now he prefers to sleep.

He's a very sweet boy, and lets his sister, Friday (blind cat, 15-ish years old), push him out of the way of food if we don't feed them separately.

He does not pick fights with anyone, although he will defend himself if need be. Although things can be different when there are many cats sharing a home, I have doubts about his role as an aggressor when he was living with Ted.

He had a urinary blockage about 5-6 years ago, and has been on non-dry food since then. Commercial canned, and now homemade (catinfo recipe) once he and Friday started developing diarrhea from the Friskies.

He may not be with me much longer. He's been having issues with constipation, even though he's on a high-water-content diet, and he does NOT like getting subcutaneous fluids, so I'm thinking that he's on his way downhill. I'm hoping it doesn't happen soon, but there is only so much I can do for him.

He's been the best cat I've ever had, and I'm going to miss him a lot when he's gone.

Sebastian passed away yesterday. He'd lost a bunch of weight, was snuggling under the covers with me at night, which he never used to do, and finally was having trouble eating. He was hungry, but he had a sore in his mouth. I took him to the vet yesterday morning to see if we could do something for his mouth, and found out he had a fist-sized mass in his abdomen, just rear of his ribcage. We made the decision to let him go, and I think it was not a moment too soon for him, although it will always be too soon for me.

He was the best, sweetest, smartest cat I have ever had, and he lived at least 19 very good years, most of them with me.
