Have you asked them if they don't mind having their claws removed?

CATS CANNOT CLIMB WITHOUT CLAWS (WELL KNOWN FACT)
Have you ever seen a cat being chased by a dog? I have.
And not being able to escape.
The panic in that little animals face as she tried to escape was pitiful.
I got her away from the dog.

You are one of the people who only want a cat as a fashion accessory, not as
a member of your home.
Love and best wishes to all animal lovers Peter (OP not included)
Also, if the cat should get out, it can still climb a tree. They can climb
trees without their front paw claws.
Cats get that panic look on their face anytime they get into a situation
they want out of and don't see a way out.
Letting your cat run outside opens it up to getting hit on the road. Cats
don't last very long because of traffic. I think you do your cat a favor by
letting it be an indoor cat. It is a dangerous world out there for a cat
even if it has claws.
