Here are some of the actual Visions preview cards-- these were on
display at the Saturday Gathering in Costa Mesa yesterday:

Knights of the Mists
U2
Summon Knights
2/2 Flanking
When Knights of the Mists comes into play, pay U or bury target
knight.

Vampirism
B1
Enchant Creature
Enchanted creature gets +1/+1 for each other creature you control.
Each other creature you control gets -1/-1.

Jamuraan Lion
W2
Summon Lion
3/2
W,T: Target creature cannot block this turn.

Undiscovered Paradise
-
Land
T: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool. At the beginning of
your next untap phase, return Undiscovered Paradise to owner's hand.

There were several other cards on display, but I didn't memorize
exactly what they did. The Goblin Recruiter lets you pay some mana and tap
him to search your library for any goblin and put it into your hand. He also
had Bull Elephant, Rock Slide, and a few others. The Ovinomancer, which they
talked about in Duelist #14, is very weak-- you have to return it and some
land(I think it was 2 islands) to your hand to turn another creature into a
0/1 sheep.
I hope this whets everyone's appetite :)

Ugly, in a big way. Your opponent is playing White Knights, Orders (of

Neat concept, and workable in the right deck.

I like this one a lot. Flexible in terms of mana use, and it's little more
than a Phasing Land. A lot more useful in the mid to late game, though.

Hmmm...Knights of the Mist doesn't sound to bad...bury target knight?
Are you sure it is not bury target knight you control?

Were these from the Multiverse preview? I thought shipping on those was
delayed by two weeks.

Just a small aside here... Weren't the Fallen Empires "pump-knights" actually
"Summon Cleric" cards??? Not that I don't think the card is cool or anything,
just not quite "that cool".

They are from the Multiverse preview, and, no, it hasn't shipped
yet. These cards were received from WotC for display and promotional
purposes-- nobody had them for sale or anything.

Just checked my Order's, and you're right...all this time playing them,
and I never looked at the Summon line :).

Still, they will be moderately useful in decks as a sideboard creature, if
nothing else. Against White, for example, which almost ALWAYS makes use of
White Knight. Almost ;).

Cool card in a lot of respects, but probably not as cool as I first
thought.

No, it's still mostly cool. :) The IA equivalents of the FE "Summon
Clerics" are "Summon Knights" - between them and all the Askari/Knights
in Mirage, it'll have moderate usefulness. Certainly is a fairly good
creature as far as Blue is concerned. I'd have thought something like
this would be neat:

Knights of the Funky Mist
U1
Summon Knight
2/2 Flanking
When it comes into play, pay UU or Knights of the Funky Mist gains
Phasing.

What do ya'll think of that?

It's a good thing they were clever with the wording, otherwise you'd
have had a two card stasis/cauldron/island combo.

Even so, I'd pack 4 of these in a tstasis deck. It's blue, it's
white, it's painless.

Yes, but the Ice age versions were knights.

There are some 18 different knights. 6 just in Mirage. 19 if you add
these jokers.

I like the fake card, it's cute.

However, the Knights of the Mist are still just... kindof cool. I don't
particularly like holding a card in my hand hoping that my opponent
will be playing a certain type of creature. It's like a Tivadar's Crusade,
only quite better considering it can be used on a deck with no knights,
but then, it's not a good deal, especially if Visions has other blue flankers.

I think in the original post according to the poster that it didn't say
sacrafice target knight it says bury target knight and I think that it
didnt specify that it had to be your card.

If you're interested in any of these, please inquire.

Trades might be accepted, but only for boxes of mirage, mox pearl,

BadMagic's Artist Proofs

These are MTG artist only cards which have a limited print
run of 50-150 world wide. They are true magic cards on the
front, but a solid white back. All proofs are signed by the
artists, this serves as a certificate of authenticity. If a
proof is unsigned, it is counterfeit or stolen!

Well, I've lowered the prices across the board, so the price
is pretty fixed. Trades for good $20+ OOPs is always an option!

Thanks for looking, and place your order now. These are very
limited! Refs and address/phone available on ordering. I
always pay for shipping!

No Prices on the Shuler Proofs as I might try selling ea expansion
instead of single cards. Let me know how this sounds...

Prices are flexible in large orders($25+ or 12+cards).
It cost me around $100 to get all these signed! Trades
are always welcome, I'm looking for BB foreign cards
(particularly Jap). I also trade for $20+ OOPs or
$10 OOPs such as sinkholes and rukhs.

All cards are English in EX+/NM condition, unless otherwise
noted! Some cards I have multiples of, if you want more
than one please inquire. Non-magic signed cards at bottom
of post. Refs/address available upon ordering.

If you're a collector, inquire about my ARTIST PROOFS.
They are truely collector's Items!

If you really want your cards signed, here's what to do.
First, don't buy them from anyone, especially at inflated
prices. You can mail the artists directly and get them
signed yourself. Here's how. GO to the Wizards homepage
at www.wizards.com and check out the artist contact page.
mail your cards, with a little note, and make sure to at
least send return postage, if not an SASE. Hopw this
helped.

Highly unlikely, as I've personally encountered an artist passing out
these cards as promotionals at a convention I attended (BayCon, in San
Jose, CA). To the best of my knowledge (Adam!!?) they're simply
front-only cards which are printed so that artists can have something
to sign and pass out without spending a fortune on real magic cards.

Yep.

Bullshit. It serves to make it a slightly nicer collectible.

Quite possibly.

*snort* So you're telling me that the two "artist proof" promo cards I
have at home, signed no less, are worth $40+ in OOP's? When I could
have gotten any reasonable number of them for free, just for the
asking?

Hope you don't manage to take anybody in with this one.

False advertising.

Man, everyone is raining on my parade today... Well, I mailed the guy
and asked him not to provide any more disinformation about an item he
knows little about... Some new artists do hand out their proofs at
shows. Many sell them for a cool $5 and sign them on the spot. I
encourage all players/collectors to get proofs, whether free or for $5.
You will only get the newer proofs(150 print run!) from the newer
artists!!! The old artists do not give them away, and I wish I could
get them for $5! Shuler's set was $1000, Weber's was $500+, and Pooles
was high, but I only got the betas... Point is, I paid $$$ for these.
I prefer to sell by set, as the price is lower.

You collector's who like a limited print run, please look. These are
in fact limited to 50 print run where posted, 150 where posted and all
signed by the artist!

The guy who wrote this knew little of proofs and spread incorrect info.
I hope this will catch those who might have been thrown off.

Thanks, Tony Manion

A complete listing of the proofs I have are available on the net, or
upon request.

Y'know, Tony, I don't like you very much. And I somehow suspect the
feeling is mutual.

But you're right--I shot my mouth off about something I know nothing
about, and I should not have done so. I publicly apologize for
impugning your business practices, and retract my allegations.

I will re-state, for the record, the information which I know to be
true: I did personally receive, from the artist, signed by the artist,
white-backed magic cards which match the descriptions of this *type*
of card ("artist's proofs"). Everything else I said was pure
speculation and slander, for which I apologize.

Sincerely,

Mickey.

P.S. Please keep your sales posts off of rec.games.trading-cards.magic.misc,
in any case. They are not on-topic for this newsgroup.

You paid $1500 for those? Wow...I really, really hope it was worth it. The
only difference I've seen between artists proofs and the cards you pull
from a booster is the white background. And you know what? I could care
less. If I want an artists card, and I want it signed, I'd rather just
have the card with the Magic back.

It's a .35 piece of cardboard, Canadian retail.

Unless it is an Alpha proof, in which case it resembles a Collector's
Edition card with a white back (square corners).

>less. If I want an artists card, and I want it signed, I'd rather just
>have the card with the Magic back.

I originally collected all the cards in genuine black-border, but when
I got the proofs, I replaced the originals with the proofs in the
collection. After all, now I have my valuable and legitimate cards
freed up for play use instead of sitting in a binder, yet I can
display a collection of signed art. Quite handy. Plus, it's just a
teensy bit harder to collect proofs, which makes this effort seomwhat
more worthwhile. At least 10,000 people could probably finish any
given artist's set of normal cards, but only 50 can finish a set of
proofs that extend back to Alpha!

It's a small nit-pick, but a nit-pick, nevertheless. I have about 25
older proofs (Dark, Antiquities) that have not yet been signed, yet
they were given to me by the artist. They are most certainly not
counterfeit. *Some* unsigned proofs are indeed genuine.

on the whole, conventions are the best way to go. personally, i always respond, and have
never had a complaint of a lost card. some artists are worse than others. start with a
couple, then send more. also, keep it to a reasonable amount, say 15 (i have no limit
personally).

furthermore- last i heard, melissa benson will not sign cards, and quinton hoover can
take up to around a year to respond! i only know this because my friend sent him stuff.
not that it isn't worth the wait....

Now, for those who can't

geez- offer the artist a what this guy is selling them for- i'm sure some would be happy
to undercut him. many artists give them away, some sell them, but overall, the artist if
anyone should be making money off these. it's not like most of us don't have a bunch of
these. now, if we're out that's another story. and if you want rarity (and care)- jyhad
APS were limited to like 20 per image. Netrunner APS vary from 75-200+ per image,
seeming to follow sheet rarity in an uncharacteristic manner.

there aren't many other legitimate APs, but legend of the 5 rings issued a set of
shadowlands APs- about 20 per image. these are identified by finer resolution, and
untrimmed cards with sharp corners and crop marks slightly showing at each corner.

but if anyone tries to sell you METW, Fist, etc. APs they're fake.

Not true. Maybe true if you don't send a few things... like return
postage, and your address. I was just trying to do some people a favor,
and save them from having to spend money to get signed cards when
all they really need is 2 32 cent stamps. Oh, and could you keep the
immaturity off of here, especially if you're trying to sell something?
If you want people to treat you like a professional (which I'm assuming
you do) then act like one.

Randy, I just want to insist that under no circumstances should you
ever contemplate sending me a full, signed set of your artist's
proofs. Don't even think about it. And to ensure that you won't send
me a full, signed set of your artist's proofs, even though I know you
won't anyway, I'm not going to tell you that my address is
Michael Phoenix
126 Briar Ridge Dr.
San Jose, CA 95123

And to make clear my displeasure with the concept of you sending me,
free, a full signed set of your artist's proofs, I'm going to refrain
from offering you a future claim on my assistance in any reasonable
way, and I'm absolutely *NOT* going to post the Magic-related parody I
recently wrote at the end of this article.

I hope this is sufficient to guarantee that you do not send me a full,
signed set of your artist's proofs.

Sincerely,

Mickey Phoenix.

"The Magic Gamer"

With a Pox of Mox and Lotus
Comes a fellow everyone knows
It's the Magic gamer
Selling cards wherever he goes

In the game room you will find him
Every evening at the con
It's the Magic gamer
And the games go on...and...on...

He gives the kids free commons
Because he knows full well
That today's young innocent faces
Are the ones who buy and sell

Here's a use for all your leisure
Comes in white, green, red, blue and black
It's the Magic gamer
With his box of cardboard crack

For those that don't know, these are very good prices for signed cards. I
think we've found a winner, folks. :)

Umm!

I can't speak for all of the Magic artists, either old or new (I
figure I'm about middling - my work first showed up in Antiquities)
but -

Some of the artists sign, number and sell the proofs.

Some do not.

Whether an artist is 'old' or 'new' doesn't seem to make any
difference.

Personally, I usually won't sell them.

Sometimes I give them away, mostly because I feel like it. Several
co-workers' kids have a collection of most of my whitebacks because I
like being nice to kids, and I've known many of these kids since they
were born. I ran into a kid who was sad because he was moving to Iowa
and thought he'd never meet another Magic artist, so I gave him a
couple, so he'd have something to show the kids in Iowa.

Sometimes I trade them for other cards. I used to play quite a bit
and I was constructing a Howling Mines deck. So I traded several
proofs for Howling Mines. I traded a full set of proofs for a Mox. I
tend not to let sets go - especially Ice Age and Fallen Empires,
because I don't have a lot of those.

Sometimes I give them to charity auctions, if it's a cause I value. (A
note - I make a point of keeping up with the charity auctions I'm
interested in - so you can write me about yours, but please remember
I'm very busy and I may not get back to you in time! Sorry! And I am
somewhat picky about which ones I support.)

Sometimes I give sets to people who buy original paintings.

Sometimes I give them to people who play Magic with me.

But mostly I give them to people because I feel like it, and I like
making people happy. I usually sign them, but not invariably, and I
certainly don't make any restrictions on what people do with them
afterwards. One kid I knew of gave his to a church auction - which I
thought was really neat. If the kids want to trade them, that's fine
too - I just hope that they meet up with people who trade fair!

So, if you want to know what an artist is doing with their proofs -
the best thing to do is ask them!

this is true. 50-150 is pretty accurate. some artists really do give

them away like nothing. i hold on to a lot of mine, but i may be giving
a bunch away soon as they are piling up and there are some images i
don't need 150 copies of. DON'T ASK, THOUGH, OR YOU FOR SURE WON'T GET

ONE. in terms of rarity, i've given away no more than maybe 50 aps of
all my images *combined*. 10 of those to one person for helping me with
some stuff. "real" rarity in this case would refer to how many are
available to the public. not that i want prices to soar on aps- i don't
think they're worth anything, and i would not sell them unless i was
down to a couple left.

Yea, I've got too much cardboard and am trying to trim the fat. Some
prices are cheap, others high. I use no guide other than market
observation... These are a few of my cards, I have a bunch of black
border type II cards, signed cards and a ton of artist
proofs(whitebacks).
If you're interested in any of these, please inquire.

Trades might be accepted, but only for boxes of mirage, mox pearl,

Refs, address, and phone number all given upon ordering. I'll send
after

If you could careless why did you reply?

Collectability is all about what someone else is willing to pay for what you have that is in limited supply. Remember,
true collectables aren't printed in the millions. Your getting a card printed in the millions signed has very little
collectability to a true collector because the sheer numbers of the print run make it valueless. Also, you should
compare apple to apples and not apples to oranges.

A, "signed" card is not an, "artist" proof card. The fact that the artist signature is on an artist proof card is purely
incidental. The fact that there are only approximetely 150 of these proof cards available is where the true value comes
from.

Because you and I may not want to buy these cards, there may be someone that truly collects MAGIC who just might want to
buy these cards. Anyway, the laws of supply and demand will dictate whether the seller will be able to sell these cards.
My only gripe is that this post should have been on the trade and action groups. Take care.

prices are cheap, others high. I use no guide other than market
observation... These are a few of my cards, I have a bunch of black

proofs(whitebacks).
If you're interested in any of these, please inquire.

Trades might be accepted, but only for boxes of mirage, mox pearl,

Refs, address, and phone number all given upon ordering. I'll send
after

BadMagic's Artist Proofs

These are MTG artist only cards which have a limited print
run of 50-150 world wide. They are true magic cards on the
front, but a solid white back. All these proofs are signed by
the artists. This serves as a certificate of authenticity that
they came from the artist and are not forgeries.

Price is listed next to each card. Prices are much cheaper by set,
or for large orders. Trades for $20+ OOPs are always an option.

Thanks for looking, and place your order now. These are very
limited! Refs and address/phone available on ordering. I
always pay for shipping!

No Prices on the Shuler Proofs as I might try selling ea expansion
instead of single cards. Let me know how this sounds... beta set is
available as singles, sorry Serra and Hypie are gone.

BadMagic's awesome SIGNED cards!
