Here is a prime example of stupidity that has become criminal. In the midst
of the present critical blood shortage the moronic San Francisco Supervisor
Mark Leno is protesting the Blood Centers of the Pacific's practice of
turning away gay men who want to donate blood.
Now you know that gay men have been asked not to donate blood since 1977 for
very good reasons. But since Mark "Gayblood" Leno doesn't understand that
there's a point where politics must be put aside, he continues to push the
gay agenda even when it endangers public health. As far as I'm concerned,
this man ought to be arrested as a threat to public health. This is
unbelievable. Leno, to appeal to his gay voters, is trying to have the FDA
revise its policy issued in the 1980s that tells men who have had sex with
other men not to donate blood.
I know that there's a shortage of Type-O blood in Northern California and a
shortage of all blood types in Southern California. But do you want gays
donating to blood centers? I wouldn't take the blood. You have a high risk
of getting AIDS, of contracting the HIV virus or other "silent" blood-bone
diseases.. That's why gays have been told not to donate blood. Leno, of
course, argues "one way to solve (the blood shortage) is to encourage
HIV-negative gay men who are sexually safe to donate."
Promiscuous homosexual men are not the only group banned from giving blood,
despite Leno's attempt to apply another coat of victim on this group. Blood
banks also refuse donations from junkies ("injection drug users" is how
practitioners of Newspeak refer to this class of citizens), hookers
("pleasure sales-persons") , anyone who has had sex in the past 12 months
with a hooker or junkie, as well as anyone who has visited or lived in
Nigeria, Cameroon, or six other African countries since 1977. Also rejected
as blood donors are hemophiliacs who have received clotting factor
concentrates. Supervisor Leno says the FDA guidelines stigmatize homosexual
men!
The blood centers go to all the flop-houses around the state and nation and,
by and large, get the worst dregs of society to donate blood. They ask
stupid questions like have you used a needle lately or laid down with
another man. If you answer yes, then you're not supposed to be a donor. Do
you think they tell the truth? Would you want to bet your life on it? Are
you willing to trust that a homosexual blood donor will tell the truth about
practicing so-called safe sex? The FDA states "we have to categorize people
by risk-behavior and HIV is definitely one of the factors."
I say that any city supervisor who has such a cavalier attitude toward the
health of the people and cares nothing about the potential damage that can
be caused by what he's doing ought to be put behind bars. Firing is too good
for him. If he and his ilk get their way, the consequences could be
devastating. In effect, it could be worse than serial killing; it could
result in mass murder. Is promoting the potential mass exposure to HIV and
death from AIDS less criminal than being shot by a mass killer? I don't
think so--unless you prefer a slow death.
Such increased exposure of the general public to the HIV virus and other
blood-borne microbes known to occur in the sexually promiscuous would
multiply the death rate many times. But apparently this is overshadowed by
gay sensitivities and the quest for gay votes. We are not to make them feel
bad by discriminating against their blood--even if it threatens us and our
loved ones. And apparently we are to stand by and let lunatics in positions
of authority, like Mark Leno, endanger public safety so that gays won't have
to face up to the lethal consequences of their death style.
I'm convinced people like our distinguished supervisor are of the same
mentality as those who open our borders to diseased legal and illegal
immigrants. They ruthlessly pursue their own agenda of power and corruption
while they play hide-and-seek behind their so-called democratic causes--and
the rest of us be damned. Supervisor Leno is only a minor player compared to
what we have in Sacramento and in the White House, but his gay-blood policy
could have even more far-reaching, and lethal, effects.
If we give in to those who care more for the self-esteem of risky
sub-populations than for the health of the nation, then all the wisdom of
the ages going back to Moses will evaporate in the age of "feel-good."

The Social Disease:
The pot was boiling over when Joe Montana's 49rs won the Superbowl around
this time. The scene on Broadway that night was something to behold. Added
to the usual clientele of strippers, punks, gays, artists, writers and
tourists you had screaming, drunken sports fans parading up and down the
street. Oh my God! Mayor Dianne Feinstein should have shut down the bridges
and put the entire city in quarantine at this point. The City had become a
big petri dish of social disease during the swinging sixties and now the few
healthy blood cells left were gasping for air. No wonder aids would soon hit
the scene!
Feinstein had been elected in '78 following the assassination of Mayor
Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk. I think she had a bull by the horns at
this point and believe it or not she was actually holding things together. I
didn't realize how far away from the rest of the world we had all gone until
we did a performance piece at Sacramento State University with the
performance artist Karen Finley. She was either stuffing peaches up her
vagina or canned yams up her ass for what seemed to be a college class full
of agriculture students... Sacramento being in the heart of the farm belt
and all. It wouldn't have raised an eyebrow in S.F., in fact it wouldn't
surprise you to see people from the audience jump onstage and join in, but
there in a classroom full of plaid shirts, hiking boots and dropped jaws, I
started to realize what a bizarre and wonderful thing we had going in San
Francisco! In the midst of all this Jello from the Dead Kennedys was making
a serious run against Dianne for mayor of the city!
It was an exciting time in the Bay Area. Steve Jobs in Silicone Valley
had just come out with the Apple 2, the first preassembled, mass produced
personal computer in '77. Robert Moog had come out with the first portable
production synthesizer, the Mini-moog, in the early 70's . Punk was changing
popular music and fashion. Performance art was challenging preconceived
notions of art. Corporate advertising was being challenged by guerrilla art
attacks. Dan White had successfully used the "Twinkie Defense" after
assassinating the mayor, and now Jello was in the running to be the new
mayor. The whole world was changing. Anything was possible...and it was all
happening in San Francisco!
