A factual juxtaposition: Palin & Obama

Prologue: I'm a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight:

* If you grow up in Hawaii , raised by your grandparents, you're
"exotic,
different."

* Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.

* Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you're well
grounded.

* If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the
first
black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration
drive
that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional
Law
professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district
with
over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate's Health and
Human
Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate
representing a
state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on
the
Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs
committees, you don't have any real leadership experience.

* If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city
council
and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20
months as
the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you're
qualified to
become the country's second highest ranking executive.

* If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while
raising 2
beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real
Christian.

* If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your
disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you're a
Christian.

* If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including
the
proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.

* If , while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no
other option in sex education in your state's school system while your
unwed
teen daughter ends up pregnant , you're very responsible.

* If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in
a
prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city
community,
then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values don't
represent
America's.

* If you're husband is nicknamed "First Dude", with at least one DWI
conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote until
age
25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of
Alaska
from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.

OK, much clearer now.

Excellent post, Rudy. Their gratuitous criticisms of Sarah Palins
experience are designed soley to mask Obama's own total lack of any
experience whatever. Notice that they are not comparing Obama's
experience to McCain's, but rather that of his vice-presidential
pick.

This is really unprecedented in American political history when you
consider that historically little or no attention has been paid to VP
picks. But even beyond this, by any objective measurement, Sarah Palin
has had vastly more executive experience than many past presidential
candidates, and more than most past VP candidates.

These people are acting like they nominated Winston Churchill for
president! Community organizer, indeed! What he did was register
derelicts, dead people, park benches and lamposts to vote under the
auspices of ACORN, one of the most fraudulent political organizations
in the country.

Power is not a means, it is an end. One does not establish a
dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the
revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. - George Orwell

I also didn't realize Sarah Palin was running against Obama for the
Presidency. That discounts the other 50% of his arguments.

Face it, McCain has a hair-trigger temper and evidences signs of
Alzheimer's. Watch him flub on TV tonight on 60 minutes. Palin is a
small time pol, vindictive, and a religious fanatic. "It is God's will
that Alaska build a natural gas pipe line . . ." she said that on TV,
too. Wonder what else she thinks is God's Will. That attitude scares
me, because it can be used to justify any action. As a retired
military officer her attitude toward war with Russia scares me too.
"Let's you and him fight" is not something I like to hear. BT, DT. Got
survivor guilt to prove it.
They both lie, all pols do to some extent, but their lies are stupidly
obvious and when challenged they just go ahead and keep lying, like
McCain did on 'The View'. Palin see Russia from her house? Yeah.
right. Maybe if her house was on Little Diomede Island. And she kept
the money for "The Bridge to Nowhere' instead of returning it. BTW
Ketchikan is my home town; they got a nice gravel Road to Nowhere out
of some of that money. A useless expenditure that if directed to other
uses might have done some real good for Ketchikan.
The snide remark "Obama's lack of meaningful accomplishments" only
goes to stress the writer's extreme bias, if not bigotry. Since they
have been widely publicized, I can only assume the writer has
completely ignored them.

Agreed. And if you want to consider that Palin "could" end up being
president, you have to consider the possibility that Obama "could" end up
being president.

On credentials, Obama gets the edge simply because of the prestige of
Senator vs Governor. However, the governor job provides more experience
than a senator whose only experience is in running for president.

Give Palin a 2 week fact finding trip to the mideast and Europe, and she
would match Obama's foreign policy experience.

Better to not compare Palin and Obama, if you are an Obama supporter.

Wrong. A president has to get along with Congress. Obama does. Palan's

Nonsense. She thinks a war for nothing is "God's work." A trip will not

McCain is number one in the Senate in votes missed this session, ahead
of the #2 guy, Tim Johnson, who spent most of the year recovering from
a brain hemorrhage and missed less than 49% of his votes. McCain
otoh, skipped 412 of 643 votes for a missed vote rate this session of
over 64%. Obama is number three missing less than 46% (295 of 643).
Clinton is number four missing 32.2%. Biden is number five missing
30.8%. Chris Dodd 26.6%, Sam Brownback 22.1%, Ted Kennedy 17.9% and
Daniel Inouye 10.6% round out the top ten. Note that except for
Kennedy and Johnson who were both ill this year and Inouye who's been
Hawaii's Senator since 1962, the rest of the top ten all campaigned
for President this year. Not that that's any excuse. McCain never
appeared in public without Joe Lieberman at his side yet the
Democrat-turned-Independent missed only 3.3% of *his* votes. The
average missed vote rate for all members in the Senate of the 110th
Congress is 5.2%.

Hypocrite McSame complains Obama skipped an important Iran vote which
he also skipped.

In those votes which Obama cast, how many did he abstain or vote present?

You're citing votes during a presidential campaign. How many votes did
McCain cast as a percentage before he began campaigning for President?

Wow. 643 votes this session? How does anyone have time to research the
issues and cast informed votes with that many being cast? Or do they just
cast their votes as their party directs them to? Perhaps McCain declares he
isn't a puppet to cast votes as directed by others. If so, that would
explain why he cast fewer votes.

Don't Arabs use one specific hand for wiping their behinds? I wonder which
puppet they are holding in that hand.

If they had any principles, they'd have shown up to vote against such bills.

Wonder how Larry Craig voted on such issues?

We won't be able to get a firm answer from Obama on the subject. He is on
record as saying that he opposes same sex "marriage", but supports civil
unions and domestic partnerships. BUT...when there is a homosexual
audience, the position suddenly becomes muddy. For example, in San
Francisco, he suddenly is lukewarm on the California ballot initiative to
keep civil unions and define marriages as man/woman.
