SAN JOSE — A 27-year-old Santa Clara woman suspected of killing a mother
and a dog and injuring a young girl in a hit-and-run collision was
arrested Monday night, according to San Jose police.

“Our detectives have been working nonstop to identify the suspect in this
incident,” a SJPD spokesperson said in a tweet. “Because of their
diligence, the suspect has been identified and taken into custody.”

The driver, identified Tuesday afternoon as Silvia Solorio, allegedly
struck a mother, daughter and a dog around 6:50 p.m. Sunday in the area of
Blossom Hill Road and Leigh Avenue. The mother, later identified by the
Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office as 45 year-old Cao Limin of Los Gatos,
was pronounced dead at the scene.

The girl, Limin’s daughter, was taken to a local hospital with minor
injuries, police said. The dog was killed in the collision.

Police said the the mother and daughter were walking in a marked crosswalk
when the suspect struck them and continued driving westbound on Blossom
Hill Road. The suspect vehicle was identified using license-plate reading
cameras; a concerned citizen later reported a “suspicious” vehicle to
authorities, which led to the arrest.

Authorities said Tuesday afternoon that detectives had located the car
that killed Limin abandoned outside city limits. Solorio was arrested
without incident at her home and booked into Santa Clara County Jail in
San Jose on suspicion of felony vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-
run.

The crash resulted in San Jose’s sixth traffic fatality death and fourth
pedestrian death of 2023. In 2021, the city recorded 60 traffic
fatalities, matching a two-decade peak also reached in 2019 and 2015. The
city surpassed that peak with 63 traffic fatalities in 2022.
