This could really create a dilema for some possible linux convertees like
me. Do you replace the whole box which works 85% of the time with something
which might be better?... or might not.

Whether Linux is "better" or not is a moot point. If one runs Linux, they
have to just resign themselves to the fact that 98 percent of available
software won't run on it without emulator programs. The way I see it, I
rather run Windows than run Linux with a program that imitates Windows. If
the software is available for what you want to do and that is all you want
to do with the box, fine. I'd rather have the versatility.

Yes, the emulation route has no appeal but it sounds like they are almost
ready to release a proper linux model. I don't use 98% of available software
and half of what I have is windows fix-up tools. File compatability has
always been the dictator of which programs most people used and in turn
which OS. I have read that linux is much more stable than windows and its
parent unix has a more creditable history than win for serious
applications - that would be a compelling reason for me to look at it.

What dilema? You can have it both ways - no problem.

FYI -

Specify the XPC SB62G2 or the SB75G2 and you get the Mandrake latest
distro included. Be sure to read the forum discussions at

http://forums.sudhian.com/messageview.cfm?catid=43&threadid=51075

The machine will dual boot to Windows XP just fine.

Have fun -

That is not a very workable option. I had Redhat and Win 2000 on my machine
for some time. Eventualy ended up dumping Redhat as most of what I used was
in Win.

I thought dual-booting had always been an option, but it would seem to be a
compromise like emulation. I would only want to have to do that as a safety
line while I prove to myself linux was worth the bother.

It always has been. It's nothing new.

I read that also progesoft has his version that works on Linux.
I see it on www.progesoft.com

Yes I saw that too. What I don't understand is, how different each brand of
Icad can be and when do the diverse modifications get pooled back into a
common release again? Is the Linux version an ITC project or an individual
proprietary, are the Progesoft & Bricscad the same or 2-different projects?
Will there be a common Linux version available from any ITC member?
