Is anyone using any type of redlining software? If you are, what should I
look for in purchasing one. Would be used for a AEC firm.

Thanks,

Mike

What do you intend to use as your input file?
How accurately does the viewer show the input files?
Can the program mark things up in the way you want?
How easy is it to mark things up the way you want?

I work for FSI International (capital equipment for
Semicounductor making).

Because of our processes, we decided to put an extra layer
between the CAD users (Pro Engineer, VersaCad, AutoCad, Accell)
and the people working with the prints.

We have some "standard" file types for the viewable prints
(Group 4 TIFF, HPGL ) which can be created by most programs.
The TIFF drawings are for scanned items (legacy drawings) and
the HPGL for the drawings from CAD systems.

Pro Engineer had the richest HPGL2 output (used the most
different commands) so we used it for our testing of these
programs.

We went with Imagenation. It did the best job of displaying
our test files (only found one glitch that has been fixed).
Non of the others that were close, had the red lining
capabilities that we wanted.

Imagenation and several of the others will display Auto Cad
files.

I am in the process of the process of installing the View Only
version of Imagenation to replace ViewBase. We will need some
new documentation control procedures to allow us to put red lines
(with proper authorization, we allow them to be used in
production) in the electronic system. I expect the red lines to
to be active in April or May.
