Scanning of drawings is relatively straightforward. Converting the
scanned image to vector format is another thing altogether. Yes,
there are programs that can get the majority of things right, however
this does not consider things like paper shrinkage, and the accuracy
with which the drawing was originally prepared. If the drawings are
dimensioned, you will find it easier and more reliable to redraw them
in AutoCAD or anything else for that matter.

Ian, I agree with you 100 %. I recently had a drawings of building
floor plans (2 floors, hand drawn) scanned and the scanned images
turned out to be 4'-0" longer than the original. It only took a day
to redraw the both floors plan in cad.
