Apologies if this seems an elementary question.

I have some expertise in 2D Autocad drawings, mainly mechanical and some
structural and architectural. However I've been asked to investigate the
conversion of a 2D dwg drawing file of a surveyed block of land showing the
contour lines, to a 3D format so you can "see" the land contours more
easily.

Is this relatively straight forward using Autocad, or is it better to use
another program? What would be the principal commands involved? Autodesk
have a program called AutoMap. Would that be more appropriate? Ant idea of
the cost? Could someone point to a good reference book covering this area.

Any help gratefully received.

TIA,
Kerry C.

Unless you are a whiz at creating 3d models, I would humbly suggest that
you use a second party package...Automap, Softdesk Civil package, etc.

good luck,

It would be relatively easy to create a 3d model that would be comparable to a 3d physical model (the kind model builder make) provided your site isn't complicated. If you want some help just email me. However, I do agree with Chris K.
