Dimension Arrows

How do I force the dimension arrows to be on the outside ? (or inside
for that matter). It seems as though it relies on the text length
forcing the arrows in or out. How can I manually set the positions of
the arrows?

When I have to do that style of dimensioning, I change my DIMGAP variable to
something ridiculous - like 2"

I assume this is not in A2K because it is spelled out in the ddim/fit
dialogue of A2K.
So, in R14 type DDim.
Select Format
In Fit, select "Text only" to have text inside and arrows outside.
You can't force text inside if acad wants it outside but you could use
a text style with a width factor less than 1 and/or reduce DIMGAP
and/or reduce arrow size.
To put the text outside select Arrows only in Fit. Or check the "user
defined" box and drag the text into position. Also, you can "cheat" by
adding a space in front of the text (trailing spaces are stripped
automatically).

Maybe try different "dimfit" settings (1 to 5).

5 seems to allow the most flexibility.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll give it them a try.

One other related condition I hope the recommendations will solve is
to have both the text and arrows outside as an option.

Set Fit to Text Only and check User Defined. Place your text outside.
