check following links:
Boat Design Software:
AeroHydro (Marine design and modeling software and services)
AeroLogic (Loftsman/P airplane and hull lofting software)
AeroMarine (Tunnel boat design software)
BaseLine Technology (Boat and ship designers. Baseline II hull
fairing software, free demo.)
Blue Peter Marine (Hullform hull design software, including public
domain obsolete version)
(Blue Peter HULLFORM is pretty good for simple projects. I still use v.5
for DOS successfully.)
Branko Barbics Yacht Design (LinDES 2.1 hull design software.
Croatia)
Carene40 and Carene50 (Hull fairing and sheet expansion programs,
free evaluation copys)
(Very simple software for design chained dinghies.)
Formation Design Systems (Maxsurf range of advanced computer aided
design, analysis and construction software)
(One of the best on the market.)
Gregg Carlson's Hull Designer for Windows (Chined hull design
program, up to six chines, expands planks, .DXF and
HPGL output. Free. FTP)
Harold Ginsberg's NACA Foils for Boats & Ships (NACA4GEN shareware
foil generating program)
Proteus Engineering (FastYacht/FastShip, FlagShip ship design
software, including hullform design, structures, powering,
stability, maneuvering, and cost estimating)
(prmary for bigger ships.)
UIUC Airfoil Data Site (Airfoil plotting software, airfoil
coordinates database, links, more)
Vacanti Yacht Design Software (Prolines)
(very good and powerfull one)
Velocity (Software for designers for performance prediction and
hull design)

I use Prolines by Vacanti Software. Dave Vacanti is a designer and
software developer, so he uses what he writes. His home page is at
http://www.serv.net/vyd/ . You can dowwnload demos there.

Here at Chesapeake Light Craft we have tried about a dozen types of
boat design software. We are now using the Nautilus System from New Wave
Systems and find it very intuative and fast. On the other hand, when I want
to do a quick hard chine hull "concept study" I'll often start in PlyBoats.
It's a great and inexpensive program as long as you understand the
limitations. Boat DZN is technically better for hard chine hulls, but slower
to use and not really intuative.
Hope that helps.

They have an application called Maxsurf, and write 'The marine industry's
innovation leader in Integrated Design, Analysis & Construction software
for all types of vessels.'
They also have an interesting freeform design package. I _believe_ these
are Mac - PC cross platform.

Maxsurf is now available for Windows 95 and Windows NT. It is a full 3D
NURBS surface based design program with integral hydrostatics, curvature
analysis, surface intersecting and trimming, developable surfaces and
color rendering.
It is one of the most widely used yacht design programs around, being
used by German Frers, Nelson/Marek, Rob Humphreys, Ron Holland, Ian
Farrier, Ed Dubois, Nigel Irens and many others. It is excellent for
small boat design and construction as well as ship design up to the size
of oil tankers.
Maxsurf is suitable for round bilge, hard chine, multiple chine,
multihull, or even SWATH hull shapes. It can handle multiple appendages
such as fin keels, rudders, bulbs with no problems. It was used to
design the hulls of both Team New Zealand and Young America in the 1995
Americas Cup. It is widely regarded as being the most powerful and
easiest to use hull design system on the market.
A demo version for 95/NT can be downloaded from our web site
http://www.formsys.com
the download is about 4 Mb so make sure you can run the program before
downloading.
Minimum requirements are -
Windows 95 (3.1 is not acceptable) or Windows NT 3.51 or later
486 - Pentium preferred
16Mb of RAM - 32Mb Preferred
VGA - SVGA preferred
A low cost version (less than $200) is in the works and will be
available soon.
