Can anyone explain what acad proxy entitites are? more importantly the
extraneous stuff they put in a drawing how to get rid of it.

I think they are entities created using an application module, arx. etc that
is not currently present in the loaded program.

i.e. designer, surface modeller from mech. desktop.

If you did a drawing in this then opened it in normal acad then if show
proxy etc. is enabled then you will get the dialogue box.

It is possible to remove the references to these entities if not required by
creating a dxf file and the opening in a text editor such as notepad.

Here you can remove the key entitiy references but proceed with caution. At
least you will have your original dwg ehh?

Proxy entities are graphical representations of custom AutoCAD objects.
Typically, they're created using ARX applications within AutoCAD. When a
version of AutoCAD that doesn't have the ARX application that created the
object, AutoCAD alerts you to the presence of proxy objects. They are not
editable, but can be moved or deleted.

Other than THAT Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

I've gotten it to work by saving as an r12 dwg or dxf.

Enjoy,
