I have existing PLT files created using HP Designjet windows systems printer
driver and would like to batch convert to Adobe PS, EPS or directly to PDF
would be great. If anyboby has done this trick already and can point me in
the right direction it would be very much appreciated. Most converters seen
to read HP/GL or HP/GL2. What format are the PLT files created by the HP
windows system printer driver? Any good links on this subject?

Is it possible to enable a merge lines function like on HP plotter drivers
when plotting directly to PS, EPS or PDF (using distiller for PDF) so I
don't have to mess around with the draworder command. Does draworder even
work with xrefs? If merge lines is not supported then I shall plot to HP
drivers and convert to PDF.

Don't even mention e-plots.... I like PDF's because they actually work.

Thanks

John,
I have an Adobe Distiller Icon on my desktop - I just grab the batch of
.PLT files from explorer and drag them onto the icon - works great. I can't
tell you what printer the .PLT files were configured for, the guy who sent
them didn't tell us.

What you suggest works very well from EPS to PDF however I have not been
able to convert any type of HP PLT in this way. I guess the PLT files you
have are really postscript files of some type and the distiller reads the
file header despite the PLT extension.

Thanks

Look at the .plt file in a text editor. The plot language will be in
the header. They are probably postscript files with a .plt extension.
Autocad does that.

Thanks Riccio... best solution by far.

There doesn't seem to be a way to specify a sheet size so I am loosing my
margins and the sheet size is cropped so that the resulting PDF's are a
little on the small size. Scale is 1:1 just the page size has reduced right
up to the edge of the drawing with no margin. Small glitch in an otherwise
perfect conversion.

I can plot the PDF's back to the Distiller and get a new PDF with the
correct sheet size and also a 100k smaller file size.

Thanks again
