Is Mechanical Desktop a stand alone package?
Or does it require to be opened using Autocad?

Autodesk Mechanical Desktop is a standalone program that includes all the
functionality of AutoCAD and AutoCAD Mechanical. They build upon each other,
but it is a complete product, not an add-on. You "migrate" your AutoCAD
license to Mechanical Desktop.
