I'm looking to see if anyone else out there has had any problems
upgrading acad r12/dos to acad r12/win. I've been waiting since 1/14
and I still haven't seen anything. My dealers (Cad Warehouse &
LDI [from Cleveland, OH]) and Autodesk keep blaming eachother for
the problems... all I know is that they have my #1 program disk

and I've been waiting almost 3 months...

Has anyone else out there had any problems upgrading? Please
post or email (I'll summarize.)

Don't worry, they are doing you a favor. The windows interface is okay, but
the windows version is just too slow compared to dos IMHO. Anyone else feel
this way? r12 for windows lasted about 1 day on my HD.

I have not switched to r12 for windows yet but, you seam to have
a problem with Autodesk and their vendor. I have had very good
luck in the past when dealing with large companies by skipping
the middle men and going to the top. If I were you I would get
the phone number of the president of Autodesk and call that
number with your complaint. I forget the president of Autodesk's
name but I am sure other people out there know it.

3 months is a totally unreasonable amount of time to spend with
a problem like this.

ACADWIN certainly demands lots of resources, but I still use it because of the
benefits that go along with using a multitasking system. I've got a 486/66
with VLB graphics card, and find the Windows version of AutoCAD to have
acceptable performance with most of my files (which are typically under 1MB).

I very seldom even consider using the DOS version anymore.

I have no trouble with the upgrade. I wouldn't go back to ACAD 12 for DOS for
nothing. In respect to upgrading do not try to install ACADWIN over ACAD for
DOS. Install it in another directory. Then when everything is OK move all of
your drawing files and delete ACAD for DOS.

If they have had my Original Disk #1 for 3 months I would be bitching to them
to get it back to me or send me a new original. This is just not acceptable.

Good Luck.

I've been bitching...big time. I've filed a complaint with the Ohio Att'y
General's office for violation of Ohio law (they have a failure to deliver
clause) and with the Cleveland BBB. This is in addtion to bitching to their
distributor and the Autodesk Cust. Service Rep. for the region (she knows
me by voice by now...) anyone have any other suggestions as to where I
can bitch?

...does anyone have an email addr for the president of autodesk?

I had a problem last year in which my disk #1 was destroyed by a vendor (I
won't go into details, but it was a big misunderstanding regarding upgrade
paths resulting from the switch to ACADWIN).

Anyway, I posted a message on the Autodesk Global Village BBS, just generally
complaining about Autodesk upgrade policies. I didn't expect anything to come
of it, but an Autodesk customer service rep posted a reply asking me to call.
I did, and the result was a 1-year extension of my DOS/386 AutoCAD license.

I was surprised, and pleased. I don't know the current status of the Global
Village (since I got Internet access, I haven't logged in there). You might
give it a try.
