When I try to run autocad 11 on a 486 based Windows NT 3.5 workstation,
the system give me this message:

--------

Phar Lap err 35: The 386 chip is currently executing in virtual 8086 mode under
the control
of another program. You must turn off this other program in order
to use 386|DOS-Extender to run in protected mode.

--------

Is there anyone that can help me to solve this problem?

Please post to: ma...@alpha.ico.olivetti.com

Thanks in advanced for any suggestion.

The DOS versions of AutoCAD rely on an extender to put the machine into
protected mode. These extenders will not run under NT.

Either run it under DOS or upgrade to R13 for Windows (R12 for Windows also runs
under NT). There may even be a Windows NT release, since Autodesk does their
development on that platform.

Al

Windows NT does not provide the same DPMI services as in Windows 3.1;
so, NT is an incompatible "DPMI Host" for AutoCAD-386, meaning NT won't
give AutoCAD access to 32-bit protected mode memory. When 386|DOS-Extender
requests DPMI services the result is the error you see here. --Carl

WindowsNT doesn't give anything needed to any DOS program besides the one
saying "Hello world". It's the most restictive OS if you intend to use your
DOS applications or those games. Not even resulting in a so much more stable
OS than OS/2. If it is more stable at all.
I even had more problems with Windows apps using NT compared with using them
from OS/2.

If you didn't try OS/2 up til now - do it right now!

Choose OS/2. Never doubt.

The best choice would be to use Release 13. It was compiled for 32
bits and comes in a windows and dos format on the CD. For win 3.1
use you need the win32s stuff. Its fast and more functional than
Release 12. With the purchase you also get a 30 day trial of AutoDesk's
modeling software which I believe is also 32 bits.
