Hi,

I work for a window company and need to learn how to use Autocad2000 to draw
conservatories.

Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to learn quickly?

TIA

There is no easy way around projecting conservatories.
Why not ask if anyone have drawings in a style that fit your company ; maby
there are much more sense in looking at various projects and pay the designer,
instead of you spending more than a year, ---- maby --- , to get to know
everything from 3D handeling of objects to dimensioning of each individual
piece.
Now it also depend what you want to learn ; is the most important a fancy
presentasion or is the most important issue to know the exact cost of each part.
Maby you think that this is a boring suggestion, ------ but fact is, that if you
ask in a groupe like this, you proberly find several designers ,that can show
something that you shuld fight with for several years to be able to do yourself,
so why not ask your firm if it wasn't an idear to ask designers for suggestions.
Have a nice day.

Thanks for the info, I didn't think it was a feasible idea! The company I
work with have a CAD designer but to be honest he's not that brilliant and
the designs he gives us arent of a high enough quality to show the customer
:(

We have "standard" designs available to us, but when you are selling some of
the more unusually shaped and expensive conservatories the customer
generally likes to see an "exact" design. I work in the sales separtment
and have often lost commision when we can not give a professional design,
hence my desire to learn how to use the programme for myself.

Costings arent one of my requirement, more how to produce a 3d sketch to
show the customer how their conservatory would look.

Digital photo's and detail drawings of corner joints and tradisional line
drawings can be as convincing as rendered scenes. ------ much of this can be
done with a simple paint program.
Now I read that you are looking more for presentasions than doing projecting
with CAD, -------- so one easy way to start, is to make standard blocks of
frames and support timbers that you scale in place . Acturly you would be able
to show a decent result, as soon as you can handle UCS's , blocks and solids and
know how to add a cirtain wood structure to one and a transperant surface to
other parts.
But maby you don't even need a profesional CAD ,as there are several small
programs that is easy and menu controled , that allow you to use standard blocks
for interiour design.

Have a nice day.

This has nothing to do with AutoCAD, but http://www.windowlink.com/
has a ready 3D solution with libraries, rendered images and B.O.M.

It is called Windowlink Vector (version is v3.42, I guess).

They have a 30 day demo, take a look at it.

(I have nothing to do with Windowlink either, but when you asked...)

Need to know more background: (a) are you able to draw on a drawing board?
(b) are you familiar with CAD/ AutoCAD earlier revs? (c) are you familiar
with conservatories and their construction/manufacture/assembly? (d) are you
familiar with what is required for planning permission/building warrants?
(e) is the conservatory ad hoc or pro forma (modular)? Reply soon!
