Hi,

I can't put my old 1991 Sony Trinitron TV in autoprogram mode because I lost
the remote. So, there are cable stations that I'm not getting. The cable
line is plugged right into the TV. Anybody know if there is a way to
program the TV to get all the stations without having the remote? Or, is
there a remote I could buy that would give me the TV menu so I could set up
the TV for autoprogram? Sony wants $75.00 for a new remote. The model
number is KU-27TS20. It's a 1991 27 inch Trinitron. Thanks to anybody that
can help. Diana

Diana,
Have you tried a Universal Remote Control? Probably much cheaper.

Well, I thought of it, but thought it had to be a "Sony" remote to operate
their menus so I could set up the tv...
If I get a universal remote, it would need to have a "Menu" button on it,
no?? I need to bring up the onscreen menu to set up autoprogramming.

Diana,
That Universal Remote Control I have has a "Menu" button on it. It also list
Sony codes of 4064, 4066, 4041, 4144, 4098, and 4100. And the option that if
these codes don't work, you can have the Remote search for a code that does
work.
I have the Jensen SC570 Universal Remote Control.

I bought two universal remotes from BJ's yesterday for $11.95 with a $5
rebate. Needed one for the same reason and it worked fine.

Naw...a Universal Remote probably isn't going to control the menu items,
just channel surfing.

My Universal Remote does the Menu thing. I doubt E-Bay has them cheaper.

I have a 1990 27" Sony Trinitron and have yet to find a universal
pre-programmed remote that has all the necessary menu functions;
not even the Sony universals work all my menu options. Mine has to
have the original in order to work the menus (luckily i still have
it).

The TV's documentation should also have the model # of the remote
itself, then you can search for it online or on EBay or sumthin. A
quick look at the links below shows a similar TV model number (with
a V where you have a U) and lists the remote as being an RM-757.
Here's a pic, is this the same as your old one?

Here's another site with old remotes:

Just buy a universal remote. There will be a chart of codes that you
enter into the remote to set it up for the various television sets and
you'll find a number of them in the Sony section. Just try them one
by one - they tell you how - and you should pretty quickly find one that
works with your set.

If you really, really have to have a Sony remote I do have a beautiful
old Sony Trinitron I bought for my girlfriend as a birthday present
once. Set needs work, but for a price I might part with the remote.
Better yet, take the TV and all!

Not sure I understand how knowing the model of my remote helps
you find the remote you need for your set. I recommend finding
someone who has a service manual for your set - or the "Sams Photo-
fact", which I can get for older sets through my library - and\
seeing what it tells you about the remote. It will proabably have
a Sony part number for it, at least.
