I have then been also requesting TV Land in my messages.
Well look what I see today in the MultiChannel News.
Ops See Red Over New HITS Tier
Littleton, Colo. -- Headend in the Sky, Tele-Communications Inc.'s
digital-video service, is revamping its program lineup again, which
has some of its affiliates up in arms.
HITS sent out a memo earlier this week informing its affiliates of the
changes, which are effective April 29.
Many of the switches involve HITS transponder 1, which contains basic
networks and which is one of the three transponders that make up the
so-called digital three-pack that TCI is rolling out across the
country. Many non-TCI systems also carry pod 1.
• HITS will be replacing MuchMusic USA and Discovery Home & Leisure on
pod 1 with The Golf Channel and TV Land, according to the Feb. 17
memo.
• Home & Leisure is moving to pod 11, where there are three other
Discovery "digi-nets."
• MuchMusic doesn't have a new berth on HITS yet. Golf is moving up
from pod 11, while TV Land is new to HITS.
Several HITS affiliates were complaining because they have already
rolled out their digital-video services using the HITS platform.
"Anytime you introduce programming to customers and then take it away,
they are not going to blame HITS: They are going to blame Charter,"
said Patty McCaskill, vice president of programming at Charter
Communications.
A TCI spokeswoman maintained that the HITS changes will help most of
its affiliates, saying Golf and TV Land are two of the most requested
networks.

YEAH!!!!!!!!!! Looks like TCI does listen! Thanks TCI (Now you
better make sure these channels make it to West Hartford Connecticut.
And I STILL want my BBC America. I dont get it but the guy who lives
accross the street in Farmington does!
I don't mind the number of channels available, but agree that the
quality is lacking. I was fixing a computer in the living room
(for 3 days - it was a Packard Bell - nuff said) and decided to
watch Discovery Science. Now, whenever I put that channel on, I
see the same programs...over and over and over...and the same
stupid "Discovery Science Commercial" they play over and over..
You think they'd be clever enough to realise they dont need to
advertise a channel you're already watching...anyway, this isn't
the place to gripe about channel programming, but with the number
of channels which are theoretically possibe (000 through to 999 would
make 1000 possible channels in my maths book) you would think that
there would be something decent on!
Regards
Nigel
Unlike David who feels that unsatisfied customers have "individual"
problems; and the cable co. has nothing to do with it.
WELL OBIOUSLY THE MANY PEOPLE WHO CALLED IN DIDN'T FEEL THEY HAD A
INDIVIDUAL PROBLEM.

My problem with the Digital Discovery Channels is that they show the
same things over and over again, they run the same 8 hour blocks for
an entire day, then repeat those blocks for 3 weeks,
for example if you watch the Discovery Channel on Monday for 8 hours
the next monday you will see the same 8 hour block, this goes on for 3
weeks then they change the programming. Its all rehash. Only good one
is the Discovery Wings Channel.

Watching Much Music just does not feel right to me, as I know that the
channel is aimed twards Canada and alot of the stuff they talk about
(or even the videos they show) have to do with their local Canadian
Areas. Feels like I am evesdropping or something.

Its Muchmusic USA hwoever the only diffrence is the Commmercials are
aimed to the USA instead of Canadian COmmercials. The programming is
the same.

We DO get pod 1 here in West Hartford, Connecticut, but from some
reason our boxes are not mapped to Recieve BBC America and also we do
not get FOX Sports World. Everything else on POD 1 we get.
I have been told by TCI the reason those 2 channels are not turned on
is because there are some licensing issues with those channels.
So will TV LAND switch from our analog channel 64 to a digital signal? I
would hope not.

It's possible, but I doubt it. SciFi Channel has been on the Cablevision
(formerly TCI, formerly TKR, formerly Sammons) system in Morris County NJ
since 1995. Last year, the digital cable was added, and SciFi is still on
analog channel 40, and not on digital.

When our system switched, SciFi and ESPN2 (and maybe others) moved from
analog to digital. Your mileage may vary.

TCI pulled this stunt in Nebraska. They had BOTH analog and digital
SciFi Until september when they changeed it out to digi only.

They pulled just the opposite stunt here in Seattle - it was on digi and
analog, now it's analog only (and you don't have to pay extra for it, as
you did before).

Perhaps for some folks but where I live (Shoreline), we still
don't get SciFi on analog-only boxes.

Many people like The Golf Channel.
Why must people think the cable company can put on only channels that would
make everyone happy? Kind of impossible.
This is what cable's all about. Something for everyone.

That's too bad! 'course, I get all these digital channels, only it's a
whole lot more crap! Some stuff is good, but I STILL don't get E!, The
Weather Channel or ZDTV. I live 15 minutes from Microsoft, and we STILL
don't get MSNBC! Not that I'd watch, it just seems ironic that with all
the money bill gates has invested in TCI, I have to go to someone like
Primestar to get MSNBC.
The channels I want are ONLY on Digital cable.. Sci-Fi, MuchMusic.. There
are even channels that the other side of the city gets and we dont.. Regular
service is 30 (2-31) channels, Expanded for us adds 20 more channels
(31-55), Digital adds 20 mixed up channels...+ 10 DMX... its amazing HOW BAD
the service is here.. any time I call service, they claim Cable Modems soon,
more channels soon, better quaily on digital soon.. Thats a year ago... If
it were't for the On screen guide.. I would drop the service completely.. It
don't even interface with the VCR properly, don't know how many times I
recorded a program, and forgot to check to see if I cleared a reminder
during that time.. or the dreaded "Please Wait" screen.. AHH it never goes
away once it starts... but If I FLIP THE CHANNEL manually it will go away!
We get shared channels.. Comedy Central/VH 1 one half a day and the other
the other half of the day on the same channel.. and many other channels are
shared half a day.. Weather Channel and Some LOCAL!!! CHANNEL!!!!!! How can
they share that, thats not even allowed (FCC or Cable
laws)...
just my 2 cents...

Oh no, after April 29th you will only have 1 favorite channel on
Digital Cable, as Muchmusic is going bye bye, being replaced by TV
LAND. (At the present time there has been no new home for Muchmusic
found on TCI's HITS service which distributes the signal for Digital
Cable.

Sure they can.

Please do a little research on must carry. A) Stations can choose between
retransmission consent and must-carry, they can't have both. B)Must carry
only applies within a certain radius of the station. C) When the station is
off the air, the cable company can do whatever it wants with the channel.
