What to know about Louisville's River City Firearms

A lawsuit filed Monday in Jefferson County on behalf of victims and
survivors of the Old National Bank mass shooting in Louisville names River
City Firearms.

The gun store sold the AR-15-style rifle used in the shooting, which left
five dead and several injured.

A Louisville Metro Police Department investigation, released in November,
included receipts from the sale of the gun.

What is River City Firearms?
River City Firearms is a federally licensed firearms dealer in Louisville,
Kentucky. The gun shop sells guns, accessories and ammunition.

Where is it located?
River City Firearms is located at 2915 Preston Highway. However, a Jan. 19
post on the gun shop's Facebook page says they will be moving, but it
doesn't say when or where.

Who owns it?
Derrick Meyers incorporated the shop in 2015. The store is still owned by
Meyers, according to Kentucky Secretary of State records.

Meyers is also listed in Secretary of State records as the registering
agent for River City Firearms of Mount Washington, as of October 2023.

Why is River City Firearms in the news?
On April 4, 2023, River City Firearms sold an AR-15 assault rifle, along
with accessories, that was used in the April 10 mass shooting at Old
National Bank, in which five people were killed and eight more were
injured, including two responding police officers.

The lawsuit alleges River City Firearms overlooked several "red flags"
when selling the gun used in the shooting.

What does River City Firearms say?
The Courier Journal called and emailed River City Firearms regarding its
response to the lawsuit filing. The business did not respond.

Has the ATF inspected River City Firearms?
The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms's last publicly
available inspection of River City Firearms was in 2017. That inspection
shows River City Firearms had nine violations that resulted in a warning
letter from the ATF. The ATF's administrative remedies for violations in
order of severity include a warning letter, a warning conference or
license revocation/non-renewal.

The violations included failing to obtain accurate transaction information
and failing to comply with reporting requirements.
