Quorum International's parent company is Applied Electronics, Ltd which
since 1975, has supplied some of the world's largest companies: Texas
Instruments, IBM, Philips Electronics, Intel, etc.
Quorum currently produces electronics in the security industry. This
includes everything from small hand-held personal attack alarms all the way
up to car and home systems. I say "currently" because Quorum will introduce
a line of health-related products and child safety products later this year.
The attack alarm is called the PAAL (Personal Attack ALarm). It's about
the size of a beeper and comes in black and has a water resistant sports
model that comes in yellow. Police say that the best form of protection is
loud noises to attract attention. The PAAL doesn't have the disadvantages
of knives or stun guns. With these, you actually have to be very close to
your attacker to use them, which is exactly the opposite of what a potential
victim wants. Also, unlike mace or pepper gas, you don't have to worry about
aiming, which is hard for a nervous person to do. You also have to
worry about a strong wind blowing the mace back at you and disabling the
potential victim. The biggest problem with all of the conventional methods
of personal protection is that they can be taken from you and used against
you by the attacker. With the PAAL, it can be used from a safe distance and
has no way of harming the person actually using it. If somebody does try to
strip it from you, they'll end up setting it off and defeating themselves.
The PAAL line of products is about to expand. The Bike PAAL is ready.
This is a variation of the original. It has a special clamp that will allow
the unit to mount on to the frame of a bicycle. It also has a strobe light
on it, too. The PAAL II is similar to the original, except this new unit
also has a strobe light. When it's not being used as an alarm, it can be
used as a flashlight. The Handy PAAL will also be available soon. Instead
of the original pull cord, this one is held in your hand at all times and
works by squeezing it.
Quorum also has a product called the Elert. Have you ever wanted to
make sure your suitcase or laptop didn't "walk off"? Have you ever wanted
to make sure nobody came into your hotel room unannounced? The Elert is
a motion sensor that can be used a gazillion different ways... well, almost
a gazillion. :-) It works on both inertial motion and vibration and can
only be disabled with the owner's personal code that is entered through the
unit's keypad. It comes in original black, a yellow Sports model, the new
Red Elert (yes, it's red), and the new Pool Elert in blue.
Quorum also produces a state-of-the-art home system. The problem with
current systems out there is that you'll pay several thousand dollars for
the inconvenience of a company to come into your home and drill little holes
all over the place to install contacts on your doors and windows, which is
1960's technology. The Quorum A-160 will cover at least 3000 sq. feet of
living space without ever having to be hardwired into the home. And it does
it for only $300. What's also great is that unlike with the conventional
system, you can take this with you when you move and not loose your
investment.
As mentioned above in the profile, Quorum's parent company is Applied
Electronics. Quorum is actually the marketing division of Applied. Applied
has been around since the mid '70s making goods for many other companies,
and has just recently decided to market its own line of products. This is
great for the distributors because of 2 things: 1) Applied is an OEM (Original
Equipment Manufacturer) which means they can produce quality goods with very
little overhead in order to keep the cost down. And 2) they've been in
business long enough to create a stable foundation that you won't find with
many MLM's today.
In addition, the products they are providing have a definite need in today's
society. It's unfortunate to say, but security is very much a necessity
these days. There's also a large market share for such products, too. In
the U.S., only 7% of all homes have any form of security. Only 2% of all
cars are protected. And *less* than 1% of all people carry some sort of
personal protection. No matter the market, there's at least a 90% market
share available for the distributors. Unlike a water filter distributor,
a Quorum distributor will have a much easier time making the sale because
the consumer will automatically recognize the need for the product.
Quorum has also done a lot of research into its compensation plan. They've
had plenty of years to sit back and see what works and what doesn't with
other company's plans. Quorum has taken all the positive aspects of all
of those plans and combined them into one.
When you start out, you're making about a 30% profit on everything you sale.
As your volume increases, you get discounts off of the wholesale price all
the way up to 20% off the wholesale. This means that your profit margin
per sale will jump all the way to about 45%. Also, "your volume" is defined
as not only what you sell, but what the people you sponsor sell, too. Not only
that, Quorum provides generation bonuses based on your level in the
Compensation Plan. It's a very profitable plan for all of Quorum's
distributors.
I hope that this provides the original poster with some of the desired info.

Amway shoppers, check page 142 of the 1992-93 Personal Shopper's Catalog.
My wife bought two of item "D", X-0411-A2, called the "BodyGuard" that
seem to be a combo. of the PAAL and Handy PAAL (has pull string and can
also be squeezed to set off alarm). The curious thing was the instructions
stated it was from "Quorum." Is this true? Is Quorum also using other
MLM/distribution methods for their devices? This is an honest question,
(not another Amway ad.) really.

OK if you are going to supply info. What's the average monthly distributor
income?

That is correct. Two weekends ago I attended an advanced
leadership training for Silver Executives and above in Minneapolis and
Raymond Hung addressed the issue in person. In addition to pointing
out exactly where Quorum is heading in the next 30 years and all the new
products that will be availalbe by August and beyond (simply
Amazing...some of the electronic products Quorum is going to introduce
will blow away any competition, and they are NOT all safety related
products.), he addressed the Doug Ridley issue. Doug is no longer
with Quorum, he wasn't capable of leading Quorum from a multi-million
dollar company to a billion dollar company...he simply lacked the
experience. The new president will be announced next week. Quorum is
experiencing tremendous growth right now...but this growth is only a
small fraction of the growth Quorum will experience in the next three
years. Right now Quorum is doing over $12 million worth of wholesale
sales a month with only a dozen products...they will be introducing at
first 2 new products a month and then 4 and more....with new products
being introduced each month, the Quorum Satellite Network growing each
month (there where over 1000 dishes put into operation in the first 3
months), and the expansion into Europe in early '94, the growth will
simply be amazing. Doug simply didn't have the managment skills to
oversee such growth. Raymond spent over 4 hours explaining to us where
Quorum and Applied Electronics are heading. He also talked about how
he gave each Diamond in the company a million dollar bonus in Monte
Carlo as well as over $500,000 in Applied stock options. This was not
a bad pay raise figuring 4 of the 6 Diamonds reached the Diamond level
in under 6 months (they joined in Sept. of'93) He said that there will
be over 40 Diamonds in Quorum by Summer of '94, half of which have yet
to join Quorum. It was amazing to see so many successful people in
such a young company...
There I go ramblin' again, sorry if I offended...

Why? Are you interested in joining Quorum UK? Quorum plans on
expanding it's business into the rest of Europe in early '94 through
the vast UK home office they just completed...
As far as income goes...I don't know the average income of the average
active distributor in Quorum...IMO it would be around $400-$500. I can
however tell you my average income as well as that of my upline. I've
been an active Quorum distributor since Dec '92, I'm now a Silver
Executive and my paycheck last month was for $1656, this months
paycheck was for $2460. My upline Fritz has been in Quorum since Oct
of '92, he is now a Gold Executive (as of this month) and his paycheck
this month was for a little over $12,000. His upline Eric Worre has
been in Quorum since Sept of '92, he is now a Diamond in the company
and his paycheck this month was for over $60,000. He also received a
one million dollar bonus from the CEO in Applied Electronics in March
in addition to over $250,000 in stock. This of course does not mean
that the average active distributor earns these types of income figures...
but my upline does not have average distributors, they are very serious
about the business and work it very hard. As with any business, you
must work hard to enjoy the profits, however in this business the
profits are large and eventually residual. By the end of Sept., when
Quorum's database marketing will be in place, the average income of
each distributor will increase by about 30%.

I know several people that come regularly to our office offering their
devices and the LEADS club I belong to has one of their distributors,
too.
Appears that Amway is buying from them and redistributing.

I am already talking to Quorum in the UK. But then I'll talk to anyone <G>.
I doubt that US and UK figures would relate. I was hoping that you'd be able
to show me how they relate in the US to the likes of Amway, NSA, NuSkin etc.

I'm curious, what president could be hired from MLM who has the
experience of a billion $$$ MLM? Or is it a corporate head from
somewhere who looks at Quorum like any other business? Caveat
Emptor. Only MLM out there really at multi-billion $$$ is Amway,
so if the new president doesn't come from there, be careful with
the MLM aspect - the president doesn't have (any?) experience in
this arena.

Is Quorum public? Does the average stockholder have a big interest
in MLM's future? Be careful, just ask Shaklee what happens when you
are publicly held and who becomes most important factor in the business
decisions :-|.
BTW, no one answered my inquiry as to whether Quorum is marketing
their PAAL/HandyPAAL thru Amway under the name "BodyGuard." If so,
be careful with your future. The business world is a fickle place.
Going where the (established) action is is typical. Be sure your
stuff isn't available thru retail outlets or other distribution
systems (mail order, competition :-) before you stake your future
here.
> It was amazing to see so many successful people in such a young company...
Not really. First couple of years can look great and if you make it
thru those, you get to deal with the "growing pains" years. Hang tight
over the next 8 years and see how it holds together with non-MLM'ers at
the reigns.

I'm not allowed to disclose his name, but I can tell you that as
President and C.O.O of two large corporations, he has demonstrated an
excellent ability to manage multinational companies through dramatic
changes. He has extensive background and experiences in direct
marketing, retail/franchise systems, food and service marketing,
strategic planning, acquistitions and licensing. Joining Avon
Products, Inc. for 12 years, starting as Manager, Brazil/Argentina and
rising to Vice President of Marketing, he has revitalized Avon's core
business and customer service sales drive, and was responsible for the
creation, development, merchandising and introduction of over 300 new
products per year with sales volume of almost $1 billion. His early
marketing and advertising training was gained at H.J. Heinz, Ralston
Purina and Grey Adverstising following his MBA, Marketing and BS,
Mathematics degrees from Michigan State University.

No. Quorum is not public. But Quorum's parent company Applied
Electronics is. They are an Original Equipment Manufacturer for
companies like IBM, National Semiconductor, Texas Instruments, and
Intel just to name a few. Quorum is Applied Electronics marketing arm.
The stock given to the Diamonds was in Applied. This stock has been
on a steady increase since Aug of '92 (not due to Quorum (maybe a
little :-), but more due to their association with INTEL).

I'm positive our products are NOT available through retail outlets.
As far as competition, this will always exist in any business and is
always welcome...there is a company out there that claims to be "Like
Quorum"...what flattery. We are always marketing new products...so
competition isn't that much of a factor. Again, some of the new
products coming out this Fall and Winter are very unique and will be
very much in demand... As far as the Amway way query...I'm not sure
who manufactures the "BodyGuard". I do know Amway has had it in their
catalogs for quite some time now....but again, it's only in
competition with our smallest product, the PAAL. We sell many other
consmer electronics products....

Yes, I agree. I'm very confident that Quorum will be around for the
next eight years ans well as the next thirty years....we are only in
our second year of the thirty year game plan...sure it's a slight risk
you take with a new company...but this one has alot of credibility
with Applied Electronics...and those that take the risks and those that
become wealthy....
Thanks for the constructive input Van...
