NBC Could Get Up to 13 NASCAR Races

■There is “speculation” that NBC Sports could acquire the rights to
12-13 NASCAR Sprint Cup races in television negotiations later this
year, The Sporting News reported last week. Under such an arrangement,
NBC would acquire the six-race TNT “Summer Series” and a portion of
the ESPN/ABC package. Meanwhile, ESPN/ABC would televise the final
10-11 races, which would include the Chase For the Cup. (The Sporting

I'm not sure why ESPN would want to give up races. Even with all the sports

stuff they are adding, they also have a slew of channels to fill and need
the content. As for TNT dropping out, this would be very bad for fans since
NBC Sports is not in as many homes as TNT. if NASCAR signs with NBC, I hope
they make a provision that requires the races to air on NBC, not the Vs.
redux network.
