JB] Anyway, I was wondering if there is any sort of "third party" wiring
JB] service that handles wires between smaller banks in different countries
JB] that aren't necessarily immediately affiliated.

On the bottom of your cheques is a string of numbers that represent your
bank's transaction code and your account number. Give this information,
your name, address and telephone number, and the name, address,
telephone number and wire clerk's name of your bank to whoever is
sending you the wire transfer. If you're wiring to them, get similar
information from them. If you wish to do this very simply, exchange
voided cheques (all the information is printed thereon) and the wire
transfer clerk's name and telephone number (this is important in case
of problems/mistakes). Think about this for a minute -- if you can write
a cheque that can be cashed and cleared, why can't you do a wire
transfer. Perhaps speaking with the manager of your credit union will
resolve the difficulty.
