The utopian 1960's fantasy festival "Burning Man" will return with a
vengeance this Sunday, but it will never be the same again after what
happened last year, when authentic hippie "burners" launched a "revolution
against the rich parasites" by vandalizing their enclosed, luxurious "White
Ocean" campsite.

Beginning in 1986 as a social experiment where thousands of 1960's refugees
would descend on the barren Black Rock City, Nevada, for a week of peace,
love, and utopia, the festival of Burning Man has now evolved into a
mainstream gala. As of 2016, over 70,000 people descended on the desert, with
many billionaires and Silicon Valley CEOs bringing their luxurious lifestyles
with them.

Since reality dictates that hierarchy and class separation always emerge
among societies, naturally, the rich billionaires all ended up congregating
in their own campsite called "White Ocean" last year — yes, rich people at
Burning Man called their campsite "White Ocean" — a luxurious 'plug-n-play'
camp with "hired staff like cooks, builders and security." Started in 2013 by
world-famous DJ Paul Oakenfold and a Russian billionaire, "White Ocean"
featured such luxurious pleasures as performances by high-profile DJs on a
"state-of-the-art stage," designer lounges, and plated meals with the finest
of culinary delights.

This unwelcome invasion of such bourgeois values finally reached the boiling
point last year, and the authentic "burners" decided to take matters into
their own hands by raising hell on the system.

"While the camp was holding a party at which revelers listened to techno
music it was attacked by vandals who flooded it with water and cut power
lines," reported The Telegraph.

Writing on Facebook, a "White Ocean" camp leader called the event a "very
unfortunate" attempt to disrupt "our Burning Man utopia."

"A very unfortunate and saddening event happened last night at White Ocean,
something we thought would never be possible in our Burning Man utopia,"
wrote the camp leader. "A band of hooligans raided our camp, stole from us,
pulled and sliced all of our electrical lines leaving us with no
refrigeration and wasting our food, and glued our trailer doors shut. ...
They vandalized most of our camping infrastructure and dumped 200 gallons of
potable water flooding our camp."

The "White Ocean" camp leader also felt they were given an unfair reputation
as not being "deserving of Burning Man," claiming they feed hundreds of
"burners" daily while welcoming them with "open hearts and immense love." A
fellow "burner" strongly disagreed with that assertion, saying the "White
Ocean" camp kept their gates closed with bouncers to turn unwanted guests
away.

"You're a closed camp and not very welcoming," said Danielle Palmer. "I got
yelled at for coming too close to your 'gates'. We know you hire people in to
cook and do other things. Feeding friends of your paid campers does not count
as feeding Burners."

According to the camp leader, Burning Man organizers didn't express much
sympathy for the vandalism.

"We actually had someone from the Burning Man organization tell us 'It makes
sense that you have been sabotaged as you are a closed camp and not
welcoming,'" wrote the camp leader.

Though some expressed outrage over the vandalism, calling it a violation of
Burning Man's utopian spirit, others welcomed it as a "revolution against the
rich parasites."

"And so the revolution has begun," said Tony Wichowski. "Taking Burning Man
back from the parasite class, back from the electronic dance music tourists.
Taking Burning Man back for the people. This wasn't much but it's a great
start."

According to the 2017 theme camp guide, the "White Ocean" camp will return
again. Will the walls be higher and security stricter? Stay tuned.
