Director of Preservation Issues
(Starting Salary: $38,000 - $45,000)

The Los Angeles Conservancy is seeking a highly-qualified professional for
the position of Director of Preservation Issues (Director). Reporting to
the Executive Director, the Director will be the lead person responsible
for advocacy, including issue analysis and strategy, technical assistance
to neighborhood groups and individuals, and developing special projects
and initiatives on a broad range of historic preservation issues. He or
she should have experience leading a team effort and supervising staff,
interns and project consultants. The Director will work closely with Board
members and other volunteer professionals. Working with the Executive
Director, the Director will develop and manage a budget for the division
and related special initiatives.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* An advanced degree in historic preservation or a related
discipline.
* Five years of experience in preservation advocacy.
* Extensive knowledge of preservation practice and law, and skill in
applying that knowledge to strategic planning as well as crisis
management.
* Experience in supervising staff and consultants, and in working with
Board members and other volunteer professionals.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the abilit
to project a strong professional image and to represent the organization
effectively in meetings and negotiations with developers, property
owners and government officials.
* Specific knowledge of the California Environmental Quality Act and of
the political systems of Los Angeles County are desirable but not
required.

Founded in 1978, the Los Angeles Conservancy is a non-profit organization
providing historic preservation advocacy and education to greater Los
Angeles. The Conservancy has approximately 6,000 members, a staff of
eight and a budget of approximately $800,000.

Staff benefits include twelve days of vacations, two personal holidays,
