(With authorization from the organizers, Dalian University of Technology
has developed and organized the seminar component of UCDF'97) PURPOSE
This gathering of professionals, academics and government officials is
designed to deepen participants understanding about future architecture
and design in China's urban centers. China's population is growing at
phenomenal rates and the population is increasingly urban and affluent.
Studying the design and architecture future of the world's most populous
nation offers great practical as well as academic rewards.

This seminar is the perfect forum for international land developers,
builders, architects, designers and academics to come into direct contact
with government officials, academics and professionals in design,
architecture, urban planning, land development, construction and more.
Included in the participant list will be the Chairman of the Ministry of
Construction, the presidents and vice presidents of design institutes from
every region of China, as well as Municipal Planning Authorities from
China's major cities.

In the late 20th century, Dalian, a newly industrialized harbor city, has
emerged as an economic, cultural, and industrial leader in North China.
It's incomparably advantageous location, unique climate, and rich natural
resources have enabled the city to become a significant industrial base with
rapidly flourishing trade and tourism sectors. The city has already become a
very important port for China to launch its economic reform and a gate for
foreign investors to enter with their China business ventures.

SEMINAR TOPICS
(Specific topics, grouped under the following categories, will be covered
in the seminar.)
* Policies and Regulations on Urban Construction Development in China
Macro-level Planning and Development, Research on Urban Form, Urban Renewal
an Preservation.
* New Notions in 21st Century Architectural Design
Simultaneous Development of the City & It's Architecture, Prospects for
Future Residential Architecture; Sustainable Development & Architecture;
The Function of Public Architecture in the Urban Environment.
* Real Estate Development, New Technology, and New Material
The impact of Architecture Technology & Science on Future Architecture
Development; Energy Efficiency, Land Use Efficiency, the Prospects and
Practical Use of New Materials.
* Research & Discussion of Successful Examples of Domestic and International
Real Estate Ventures.

CALL FOR PAPERS
* Abstracts should be submitted in English and be less than 300 words.
*. Final papers may be submitted and presented in English or Chinese.
* The main body should be between 3000-5000 words.
* The topic should be original, future oriented and closely follow the above
criteria.
* The seminar committee will select several outstanding papers to be published
in their entirety, and several others will be chosen to publish as abstracts.
* The deadline of Paper Application is April 20, 1997.

HOW TO PROCEED
* Registration:
Fill out the registration form and send back before April 1, 1997;
Seminar committee will send Formal Invitation Letter for approval.
* Individual Attendance Fee:
US $300.00 / Representative
Including: Social Program; A copy of the publication; Lunches.

SOCIAL PROGRAM
A social program will be assembled to appeal to a broad range of personality
and interests. This program includes tours in the Dalian area and outdoor
recreation.
