I am currently conducting research on the vernacular architecture of the
National Grange of the Order of the Patrons of Husbandtry). The National
Grange was founded in 1867 and is best known for its social and political
ties to the farming class of the late 19th and early 20th century. You can

The Grange is still a functioning society, although not as large as it
once was. As agrarian communities are gobbled up by sprawl and
developments, small organizations like the Grange are destined to disappear.
My research is on the patterns of vernacular architecture employed by
the Grange during their first years at the close of the 19th century. I ask
that any of you having ties to the Grange in your community contact me.
Locating the Granges and recording them is the first step to saving them.
