Playing the Construction Game

Dear Newsgroup Reader,

If you are planning a project that involves major repairs, remodeling,
additions, new home construction, or even the purchase of a manufactured
home, do yourself a favor and check out my web site. I've spent a lot
of years in the construction business and I am really tired of hearing
about the sad stories associated with newcomers who have played the
construction game for the first time and feel they have been burned.

The fact is, wise consumers rarely get burned. They encounter problems
that they are prepared to solve. It really doesn't take a rocket
scientist to be a wise consumer of design and construction services.
But it does take a little knowledge and preparation.

Playing this game is not like running off to buy a stereo or TV. This
game costs money, sometimes big money. If you jump in without knowing
the rules of the game, shame on you!! If you do, you will probably end
up spending a lot more and getting a lot less than you expected. You
may even end up getting ripped off. When this happens, please don't go
crying to someone else about how you were taken advantage of. It just
gives the industry a bad name, an undeserved bad name at that!!

The construction industry is not that much different than any other
industry. It is populated with humans and some are people with integrity
and some are not. There are those who know what they are doing and
those who don't. Like any other business or transaction, consumer
knowledge levels the playing field.

If you were to walk into an automobile dealer knowing nothing about
their line of automobiles, point to a showroom model and ask a
salesperson to sell you that vehicle at sticker price, who is to blame
for that consumer choice, you or the dealer?

Learn to play the construction game before you decide to play, or take
your lumps and don't cry about it!
