Are there any good books or free online resources for understanding
how to read construction blueprints? I need this for my friend who is
a carpenter, in order to get a better job, he needs to be able to read
house/construction blueprints.

He is a carpenter, but has trouble reading blueprints. Please suggest
some standard text or something that you think will definitely help
him. He works in North America.

I am a master carpenter by trade and have been in the industry for over 50
years starting when I was 10 and the very first thing I had to leard was to
read a drawing, then I learned to draw them but I think that you friend
should take some professional courses and build on his abilities as a
carpenter.

A master carpenter can do all phases of carpentry inculding running work
he or she usually has over 20 years experience and can build a stair from
nothing or a window from nothing.
I think that its a lost trade.
