I can't believe nobody's started a thread on last night's episode of
Angel yet. Has everybody joined the 5x5 group? If so, congratulations.
My VCR started acting up, otherwise I would (maybe) have joined you.
Really. No, trust me on this.

About the episode itself, let me just say that you guys have the best
episodes this season to look forward to. If I thought "5x5" was
excellent, then "Sanctuary" was even better. The season is certainly
coming to a strong finish.

Looking forward to hearing your reactions when you get around to seeing
them.

Nope. Still watching Angel religiously. None of that "taping and
watching later" stuff. Too much of a spoiler slut for that...

Anyways didn't start a thread this time because reactions to the thread
I started on 5x5 were almost non existant. Figured there wasn't much
interest on any thread 'till the majority of the main posters watched
the ep. So I'm definatly gonna start a santuary thread in five weeks
time. Gives me a good exuse to rewatch as well.....

Hmm. Don't know if it was *better*.

The storyline had a faster pace this time around, theres no doubt about
that. There were more interesting characters around (Kate was there for
instance. Wondered when she'd pop up again). Also Wolfram&Hart are
gaining momentum as the season "baddy". The only thing that really
bothered me in this ep is the quick turn of Faith. Ok, so the girl
still had some good in her. Fine I believe that. But theres no way that
she would be able to turn from a vicious rogue killing slayer, to
little miss "i love everyone and want to give them a hug" in one
episode. Stretched out over a few, I'd have believed it. Now it was
just too rushed. Of course its understandable, Faith isn't a regular
character and a three of four parter has yet to be shown in either
Buffy or Angel (story arcs aside) but still...

Also the ending of this ep lacked the emotional impact that 5x5 caried.
So all in all still very good, but slightly less good than part one.
Still this two parter is the best we've seen in either Buffy season 4
or Angel season one, so I'm not complaining...

Can't wait till next weeks Angel (or Buffy for that matter...)

See Ya,
George

Hčhč.. You were just to lazy to reply last week. No wonder there wasn't
any discussion. :)

I found it quite believeble. As I said before, I believe Faith was
horrified by what she had become even before she came to LA. She couldn't
admit that to herself, for than she would have to deal with all the
suffering she had caused. She was to scared to do that, so she wanted to
die. When Angel didn't kill her, she broke down and then decided to face
her fears..

I like my explanation better, because it fits in Buffyverse. Your
reasoning is probably sound, though.

Oh, no. I found this ending extremely powerful. Buffy intentionally
hurting Angel because he doesn't agree with her, Angel being justifiably
angry and essentially breaking up the last ties of friendship between
them. Very powerful stuff.

Faith hit him because she's in deep pain, Buffy hits him because she
wants him to hurt him out of vengeance (for holding Faith?).
But basically, Buffy should have known better. Faith has the excuse of
being deeply disturbed.

I thought the whole ep was a bit rushed, Buffy's appearance in it
especially so. She didn't really get "into the ep". She 'wasn't
acting any worse than usual AFAICS. Only saw the ep once though, I'll
pay some more attention on the rewatch.

I thought her hair looked funny and her make up seemed different. Angel
(the show) probably has a diff. make up artist then BtVS.
And yes, she did look out of place, but i think that is because she *was*
out of place.
She came there expecting something totally different that what she got. Like
Angel said, it's his town now.

In the begining i thought they were setting Kate up to be a regular. Angel's
link to professinal invetigation facilities. And then she just of
disapeared. Finding out Angel was a vamp and then her father being killed
must have been a shock, but she really seems to hate Angel.

Though not a very compentent one. Can they get anything right ??

Agreed. We don't know everything she did to Buffy, but it looks bad enough.

Most likely explanation i would say. I wander if we'll ever hear what kind
of jail time she gets.
It would be really interessting if she would get the death penalty. With the
whole new Slayer issue.

The ending wasn't as powerful as 5x5, but it was bitter (for lack of a
better word) in a way that surprising for a Buffy or Angel ep.
Faith's speech up on the roof, about not being in control was the most
emotional point in the ep IMO.

this strong feeling of telling Angel to head to England and kill that
bunch off before they harm Buffy again. I liked Angel simply throwing
out the shooter instead arresting him.

Agree. I think we still lack a whole lot of background information on the
Council, especially the When and Why it Went Wrong. I'd really like to see a
Council-ep.

Mmm. Yeah, Angel was cool. Angel is cool.

Well she could 'easily' escape for one thing, she could dominate the
entire womens wing if she wanted to, so in that sense she cannot be
punished like a normal person that goes to jail. If she must face the
limited freedom like any other imprisoned girl she could brake down (we
know what losing Slayer powers did to Buffy) and start building up her
life again.

Yeah, maybe it's just that these elite guys went out of line and the
council doesn't know what they have done. The things that these guys
said could never have come from a council member like Gilles. OTOH
Gilles also disapproved of the 18nth test, which the council got very
mad about. Maybe the council has corrupted over the years. It is a dark
heritage thing. Yes, a Council-ep would be nice.

Even when he gets beaten up. I especially liked the fighting scene in
the previous ep. It just kept going and going, like the kick in the
glass display (one of my favorite kicks although it hasn't got that much
thrust) immediately followed by the bouncing Angel off the ceiling
action. I remember turning up the volume blindly, it was so intense. I
really expected her to die, but when Wesley got the knife I knew it
wasn't going to happen. I expected her to somehow give herself up, and
to step back... into the knife. Wesley doing more wrong, killing a girl
who had surrendered. Faith whispering that she could not stop herself
from doing evil, that it may be best for her to die, blood all over the
place. She closes her eyes and the camera zooms out, fading. In the next
ep Faith waking up the in a prison hospital, weak. Not realizing her
powers will not return when she recovers, she will be a helpless little
girl in prison. She must face life, real life, prison life.
