What could happen to Xander

Spoilers for season three
So each founding member of the scooby gang has a purpose. Buffy is the
slayer, Giles is the Watcher, Willow is a witch, Oz is a werewolf but what
does Xander do/have? We know in the Zeppo that he may become some wat of a
nuisnece to the group. What does Joss have in store for him? He's done
something with every other member of the group. I think that Xander may
actually become a Watcher. I know Xander may not be the brightest person
alive but he does work hard and he does care deeply for the people around
him. If Joss were to do this, it would be one hell of a surprise. Mainly
being that you don't put the words, Xander and Watcher in the same sentance.
Now could Xander be a good watcher? Yes he could. Giles would obviosly train
him and make him the best. It's just something that's been floating around
my head.
Again I do not know if this will happen in Season 4 or later I have no idea.
I don't go near anything that will tell me about Season 4 as I don't want it
to be spoilt for me. If this does happen, it'll be freaky as hell.

Somehow I dont see this happening. Xander just isnt watcher material. Maybe he
will be in a few years time, but at the moment the xander character is just too
immature to handle such a responsibility. I *do* see willow becomming a watcher
though. Shed be totally right for it. She not only has the knowledge, but she
also has powers (witch and all) and computer skills. She's the wacher of the
futute <g>

Actually, given the speeches he's given, he's struck me as fairly
intelligent, although probably not suited for a scholar-type job.
He's researched alongside the others in Gile's books, his vocabulary
is very good, but yeah, he's lousy at math and other sciences.
There's been comments throughout the series about his family and
home life, including his unemployed uncle (the demon in the computer
network story) and parents' parties that literally drive him out of
the house on Christmas eve (this is guy who i predict is not going
to be too tolerant of drunks and drunkeness), and i am wondering if
this is someone who is:
1) Going to get away from his family ASAP,
2) Probably get a low-paying job, but aspire to something better,
3) Given his verbal skills, would probably be suited for a bookstore,
or maybe a newspaper,
4) Hmm... but Watcher? Still, are the only jobs available from
the Watcher's council watchers or watchers-in-training? What
about those guys who shipped the vampire in for Buffy's test?
Surely there are other jobs to be done in that group.

Yeah, but i don't think it's was joke when Giles admitted he didn't
like Xander (end of Season 2). I think Giles has a low tolerance for
Xander's style of obnoxiousness, even if Giles recognizes it as a
defense mechanism.
How's this for a spot of tension in the storyline: Xander is hired
as Watcher gofer. Giles, who is no longer a Watcher of any standing,
has to deal with the fact that Xander is in, and he's out.
