Well look who's back! It's Riley!..... no, it's the Mayor!!.... no, it's
Faith!!!

This was bound to happen sooner or later. Last time we checked on Faith, she
was still in a coma. And what do people in a coma do sometimes? No, I don't
mean sleepwalking. And no, I don't mean snore either. We are talking Slayer
girl here! So she has a profetic dream (or several), and wakes up. Way too
late for graduation, but it's not like they had a diploma waiting for her or
something.

Not so sweet dreams for our beloved psycho-slayer. No wonder she wakes up.
Again, there's the hinting at little sister and a lot of preparations to do.
Important things, like straightening out the sheets. And pulling that knife
out of Faith's belly already! Man, I love those riddle-packed dream scenes.
A more peaceful dream reintroduces our beloved Mayor. Yay! Don't you just
*love* these reunions? Well darn, who's up for a picknick? Buffy is. And she
brings her own knife. Or Faith's knife rather. This time killing the Mayor
takes considerably less effort. And Faith, well she'll just have to die in
real life...

I love the way Faith has to visit the 'sites' to gain up with time. It's a
trip down memory lane, but not Faith's memories. Faith wakes up with a
vengeance. Buffy nearly killed her. Getting a knife jabbed in the stomach is
about the last thing Faith remembers. And when she wakes up. she finds out
that Buffy has killed her sugar daddy. Not that the Mayor would have stayed
around when his ascension had succeeded, but still. He has left her a gift
though. Smooth how Faith killed the messenger. Not so smooth how the
policeman didn't see a thing shining his Mag-Lite down the alley. That video
reminds Faith and me again what a wonderful character the Mayor was. And we
are both sorry he's gone. The good father he was, he is concerned what will
happen to Faith when she wakes up from her coma. He is correct in assuming
she will feel lonely. I would presume that Faith would get the hell out of
Sunnydale and stay low for a couple of years. But she's too obsessed with
getting her revenge.

They did keep Faith in a far away corner of the hospital. Maybe that's why
Buffy never visited Faith, she couldn't find her. But seriously, why didn't
Buffy or the others ever visit Faith. Did they just forget about her? They
know that Faith stands a chance of waking up out of coma with her Slayer
regenerating capabilities.
At least the nurse kept an eye on her. More than that it seems, because she
calls on the men in black as soon as Faith has left. I'm thinking CoW
agents. Because they are the only organisation who would be concerned about
Faith (and know her true identity). This time they look prepared to do the
job. At least they didn't bring in Wesley.

Faith is blinded by hate. She wants to pay back Buffy in ways that will make
Angelus' stalking look like a highschool prank. She finds her way to Giles'
place easily enough and eavesdrops on the Scoobies. She sees that Angel's'
place has been taken by Riley. I can't imagine that she will ever try to
*seduce* him. Hey, maybe he's the best weapon against her. He might bore her
to death (Yep, Riley didn't make a good impression on me this ep. The guy
even has golfclubs).
Was it the CoW that called Buffy about Faith's escape? I don't think it was
the hospital. Why would they want to inform Buffy?

Like Buffy said, Faith isn't exactly low profile girl. But it *is* very bold
to confront Buffy on the middle of campus. Willow's subtle plan to take out
Faith with her handbag miserably failed (Good thinking! Faith's not the only
one blinded by hate.). Faith's little speech reveals that she has her very
own interpretation of the facts. Let's call this the psycho point of view.
She runs off, decking some cops along the way. You know they only need one
bullet to stop her. Buffy loses her when Faith jumps over a wall. Buffy
can't see her anywhere. Tip: look down...

Faith holds Joyce hostage in her bedroom. What other point of entry for
Buffy then the window. A bit strange that Buffy automatically figured out
what was going on, before even entering the house apparently. Another great
battle between Buffy and Faith, with Buffy on the winning side again. Even
surviving a frontal with a glass door. But Faith puts the Mayor's gift to
some good use...

So Riley is back as well. Is he still on drugs or what? He has got a choice
to make similar to the choice Buffy made in S3 concerning the Council.
Except that Riley still has the option to stay with the Initiative. Even if
it is just to operate as a spy (good plan).

Xander and Giles are stupid! Sure, tell Spike all about Faith and expect him
not to take advantage of that information. They truly are blind when it
comes to Spike! Why didn't Xander just zap him anyway? Was he scared because
he almost got electrocuted in his basement (which none of the Scoobies
reacted to by the way).

The Willow-Tara scene was big fun. A shame half of Willow's Faith-imitation
was concealed behind a big pillar. Apparently Willow has brought Tara up to
date concerning the Scoobies and their extracurricular activities. Seems
Tara is joining them in those activities. How long before she gets
introduced to the gang?

Adam is heavy into anatomy. Why don't he just read some good books (or
disks) on the subject? I'm guessing he likes practice more than theory. To
bad he killed Walsh. She could have teached him so much...

At the start of the episode I was worried that it would be all about the
Initiative, Riley and Adam again. Good thing Faith prevented that! This ep
had good pacing. lots of excitement and lots of surprises. I really liked
it. And now that Buffy and Faith has switched bodies (!), I'm dying to find
out what Faith will do to Riley (please let it be slow and painful).

Well, talk about your cliffhanger! Dang, now I will have to watch Buffy
again next week! Oh well, Olympics are over anyway... ;o)

One of the best lines in the ep to start things off..

Well, all of them, in one way or another.

I'm guessing one dream was prophetic, and shared, and the other ones in
part. I'd have to watch again to draw parallels between the dreams and
what happens. We may also have to wait for next week's ep for full
disclosure. Faith wakes up very very confused though, and surprisingly
in shape and well trained for someone who's been bedridden and immobile
for so damn long..June to February 25th (roughly.)

Indeed. And this one is possibly a shared sequence between B and F, I
think. It has that similar odd feel, and deals with the same subject
matter. Also, the two are on speaking terms. I really love these
sequences, and I'm itching to find out what its all about (though I'm
sorta going to try to avoid spoilers :-)

Right..which made it seem more normal nightmarish that prophetic. It all
already happend and all that stuff. Again, rewatch is order to make a
little more sense out of the dream sequences (if possible.) The fact I
was still making my dinner whilst those first dream sequences were
on..oops.

Well, if I understood his video message, he may have well stuck around.
Somehow that's not too sure. Actually, what the heck did he plan on
doing after he turned big and snakelike? Its not something you can hide
easily..then again, the Master managed to maintain Sunnydale within his
grip (and that of Vampires) in the DGL/Wish alternate universe, so..

> He has left her a gift

Right. There was definately a shoe still visible, and of course a dead
demon in the alley. Details...

Well, sorry because he was so much fun, but not sorry because he was
insane and very dangerous. I'm kinda curious as to how exactly the
general public views the occurences at the 1999 graduation ceremony..we
didn't get much info from the knocked out and stripped woman that Faith
met in the corridor.

> I would presume that Faith would get the hell out of
> Sunnydale and stay low for a couple of years. But she's too obsessed with
> getting her revenge.

Right. Faith isn't one for planning, which we knew. Buffy already flys
by the seat of her pants a little too often, but Faith is much, much
worse. And now she's pissed and more than a little crazy (crazier than
she was, for certain.)

Well, someone tipped Buffy off as to Faith's reawakening. Who it was, we
don't know. In and of itself that's pretty suspicious, and I hope we get
some answer there (but I'm not counting on it..) And anyway, it's not
like they're all on super friendly terms with our nice little friend
Faith. That, and there might be some questions asked (interviewing of
visitors of that murder suspect.) which is not something which they want
to face. Enough other issues.

Indeed. Watchers Council is my guess (well, the black dressed guys were
british, after all.) For a moment I was thinking some US Government
thing (you know, the whole CIA unmarked black helicopter myth..of
course, this chopper was marked, so...) but I lost that soon. They'd
send some Initiative agents over, and tI didn't know that the slayer was
real, let alone that there are 2 of them, so that idea flew out the
window within a few seconds. And anyway, Wesley was fired. He's a rouge
Demon Hunter now :-)

Well, given that little final line that Buffy(?) spoke, I'm not so sure.
We know Faith likes sex, and that slaying makes her horny :-)

Hehehe...

I don't know. And I think they would've been known to Giles, at least.
He didn't seem to know who it was. And anyway, the phonecall predated
the arrival of the MiB (Men in Black...new look for the WC, I must say!)
IIRC..weird little thing there. They might want to inform buffy becasue
she is, after all, the slayer (the non-evil one.) over which they would
still like to have some sort of control or oversight, I would think.

:-) That was actually a pretty good scene, if very stupid of Faith. Kind
of typical though, big obvious actions, stealth is useless (see, for
example, Bad Girls.)

> Faith's little speech reveals that she has her very
> own interpretation of the facts. Let's call this the psycho point of view.

Well, some of it makes sense, if taken from the evil point of view.
Still doesn't make her less psycho, though.

> She runs off, decking some cops along the way. You know they only need one
> bullet to stop her.

Yeah, but the cops aren't going to shoot an unarmed teenaged female
running towards them. Shouldn't be a problem, the idiots think.
Actually, how old do you think Faith is? Older than Buffy? Same age? Not
that it actually matters..

> Buffy loses her when Faith jumps over a wall. Buffy
> can't see her anywhere. Tip: look down...

Har har. Well, Faith can do the stealth thing if she feels the need to.
Pretty smooth move though.

> Faith holds Joyce hostage in her bedroom. What other point of entry for
> Buffy then the window. A bit strange that Buffy automatically figured out
> what was going on, before even entering the house apparently.

Well, Faith is pretty predictable, and the rest of her friends are all
safe. I was a little suprised she hadn't phoned mother dear first
though. Buffy probably decided to look around though the windows before
entering (which makes noise.) And anyway, she spent the better part of 2
years entering and leaving the house through her bedroom window, so...

> Another great
> battle between Buffy and Faith, with Buffy on the winning side again. Even

Which is intriguing, and annoying, since we see the dreaded "To be
Continued" But there's goodness there! Yay! Nice fight scene, I must
say.

> So Riley is back as well. Is he still on drugs or what? He has got a choice
> to make similar to the choice Buffy made in S3 concerning the Council.

I'm not sure if he is or not. Might not have been a good idea to re-drug
him (interactions with the other drugs he needs to take.) but OTOH, the
cold turkey wasn't good for him either. I guess we'll find out.

> Except that Riley still has the option to stay with the Initiative. Even if

I say he should do it. Should be fun.

Because, indeed, they are stupid and seem to think that Spike would show
some gratitude. And for some reason they also feel some sort of sympathy
for the guy (which I can understand, but only becasue I don't need to
deal with him :-) It is all a little stupid, though. Bit of
self-critique from Joss and co, I think (Spike's little speech)

Hmm..I took it to mean introduced to part of the activities. The exact
why and how and who hasn't been covered yet. I'm sorta looking forward
to an introduction to the gang, which I think should follow shortly (not
in the next ep, probably, too many other things going on then, I would
guess.) I'll wait and see.

Oh, but books don't tell you as much as an actuall dissection (and I
speak from experience. Not the kind of murder and dissect experience,
but the anatomy class experience.) Cutting things up is very instructive
indeed. Its a biologist thing. My High School Biology teacher used to
say "Biologists are very good at killing things."

:-) I'm not sure Faith wants to make it painful (not in the sense you're
hoping, anyway.) but slow may be an option..or not, of course. I'm kinda
wondering how the hell this is going to play out. Acting challenges for
all abound here. I much prefer this Faithy storyline to tI arc, its,
well, more better :-)

Yeah, like you were going to miss it..you're almost as bad a liar as
Willow.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I've got this picture with Buffy and Kendra
back to back and photoshopped apart but Kendra seems chubby... I mean
Kendra looks chubby compared to Buffy. Maybe I should get a picture of
Kendra alone as I remember her as pretty... uh pretty.

It's pretty hard to find Buffy wallpaper. I used to have a collection of
hundreds of textures. But almost all wallpapers miss finesse, it's like
everybody thinks that Gimp is good enough for artwork... or why bother
with artwork if you can just make a collage of 10 to 20 low res
pictures. Hey, I've got millions of colors now and can't run out of
memory, I want hi-res!

And strangely this time I agree (sort off). I assume Joss was getting critique
by the fans about Spike's role and wanted to point out that he was still the
same old spike. So, yes, *that* I buy. The instances where you let the
writerverse interfear with the buffyverse were different. Like the
Giles/Storyboard sequence in Hush. Then there was neither any hint nor any
reason to view it that way. Plus it worked perfectly well from a Buffyverse
point of view. This time we know its a possibility that thats *why* this scene
is here. Same thing as when Angel left from sunnydale end s3, we knew he was
leaving for his own show. Feel the difference?

Amber Benson (Tara) isn't superthin, especially not compared to Alyson. But
she isn't chubby either. The clothes they make her wear aren't exactly
flattering. They make her look much bigger than she is. The ensemble they
made her wear in this ep was the worst. Amber may be sturdily built, but she
is in no way fat as a lot of people have accused her of (not you Peter).

I've never seen any proof that Buffy and Faith actually shared a dream.
Although it is by no means unlikely. Especially on the Muffet/Little Sister
thingy.

All I can say is: Slayer power. I think the body regenerates and only when
it's completely ready for action, Faith wakes up. We saw Buffy getting out
of bed and coming back in shape pretty quick in GradII. And Faith didn't do
anything spectacular the first few hours.

Yeah. I was hoping she would tell us the explanation that the general public
was given. She mentioned that a lot of students died. But of what?

I'm not saying that Buffy should bring Faith flowers. But a periodically
check up would be logical. And like that cop said, Faith wasn't under
surveillance.

And I don't think it was the police or the hospital because they wouldn't
know to phone Giles in order to reach Buffy. So it must be the Council.
Somehow I'm guessing it was the nurse who wanted to find out whether Buffy
had seen Faith.

Yeah, but she never entered through her mother's bedroom window. Buffy might
have expected Faith to be there. And maybe the front door was still open.
Anyway, the way it was shown now just leaves a lot open to guessing and
assuming. Now you get the feeling that Buffy only crashed through the window
for the surprise effect and because it's spectacular.

No URL, but I've seen some new items about the exhibition. It's causing
some controversy, since its blurring the lines between science and art,
and the ethics are ambiguous at best, really. Bit of an odd situation.
Actually, the Anatomy Professor guy here at the VU wouldn't mind seeing
the exposition come to Amsterdam if at all possible. There was a whole
articel on the topic in our Faculteits blad thingy.

Seems the bodies are first conserved in a normal way (formaline) and
then, under vaccum conditions, the fluid is replaced with a hardening
epoxy which replaces all the liquids, and solidifies the whole thing.
It's actually a great way to make 'preparaten' (can't think of an
appropriate english translation at the moment, which is actually kinda
scary, to be honest ;-) but it's costly and complex, so its use is not
widespread.

I really would enjoy going to see the exhibition if I got the chance..I
don't seem to have a copy of that magazine thingy, which is too bad,
since it had a URL, IIRC.

Really? You didn't read that into the dream sequence in Grad Day? I
surely did (the cat flashing into Faith in a hospital bed did it for
me..) There is not exact proof, of course, and I don't foresee us
getting any. Buffy and Faith are not really up to talking about dreams
'n stuff. However, there is the fact Slayers are known to have prophetic
dreams, and Buffy and Angel have shared dreams before, so it is possible
in the Buffyverse. And who better to share them but 2 Slayers?

Well, she managed to recover enough within a day to give Buffy a run for
her money. I agree though, its gotta be the Slayer powers. I really hope
we delve into the topic of 'what is a Slayer, really?' in some not too
distant future..that could make for some really fun storylines..

Right. Me want more info, although we're unlikely to ever get any..

Possibly. Then again, the doctors did say that there was no chance she'd
ever wake up (which possibly she believed.) Anyway, in one way or
another she was warned, and visits wouldn't have done her any good at
all anyway..

Probably the council, but I'm not sure it was the nurse. Weird thing is,
Giles didn't seem to know who it was (still gotta rewatch, and pay more
attention to details like this..) and was surprised it was someone for
Buffy. He did seem to know (well, they knew him..) the guys waiting for
him in his apartment..odd. You're right though, the Concil is the only
entity (outside of a spy placed by Buff herself, which doesn't seem
likely. Or maybe a Whistler type demon guy, TPTB channeler..) who would
have any reason to warn Buffy. A little spooky that they knew who to
call (they might've tried the dorm, we don't know..it's fun to play with
the possibilities, no matter how unlikely some of them are :-)

Somehow, I doubt Faith left the front door open. Absolutely no reason
to. She's crazy, not stupid (well, a little judgement impaired due to
the crazy, of course ;-)

Well, that's why she crashed in thorugh the window, but the element of
surprise is important; first some recon, and that most easily done by
looking in through windows. How to get Faith away from Mom fast? Crash
through window and knock her out of the way. Enter through the door and
you might give Faith dear time to reach Mom, and slit Mom's throat.

No indeed. Of course, the US audience is quick to call someone fat (all
that stupid pressure stuff.) She looks good to me. BTW, I found the
outfits this ep quite, how shall I say it, ugly. Willow was continually
wearing bizarre stuff (like the weird outfit in the beginning of the ep,
and the not so great dress later on..), not the nicest combo's we've
seen. Worst costuming in a while, IMHO. Gotta rewatch to confirm that
suspicion, though.

only Faith was aware. It seems that the dreams are centered around the
person who is dreaming them. In Faith's dream, Buffy is bad and tries to
kill the Mayor and Faith. In Buffy's dream, Faith (not explicitly bad) is
helping Buffy.

BTW, I watched the Grad II dream today. I noticed some letters on the
outside window. They seemed to form the word GUN (looking from the outside
in). Maybe I am seeing things that aren't there?

This was the first ep i really noticed it. I glad to see a more "realistic
looking" person in a TV show like this one. Especially with the pressure
thing you mentioned.
btw, this has nothing to do with AB, was anyone else annoyed by the fact
that the Buffy action figure has way too long legs. Besides being out of
proportion, it doesn't look like SMG anymore.
Does anyone know how tall she really is ?

Does anyone else get the suspicion that the show is being paid by some
cloths firm to promote the hell out of long skirts?
Maybe this is really in fashion in the US, but, with a few exceptions, i've
never seen girls my age wear those kind of skirts where i live.
And certainly not as frequent as Willow and Buffy wear them.

I just rewatched TYG and saw a man with a headset and a big microphone
behind the tree where Adam had strung up his little experiment.
Has anyone else seen goofs like that on Buffy before?

I never pay attention to these kind of things. But might I recommend
www.buffyguide.com They discuss the goofs and gaffes per episode. Usually
there are a lot of minor inconsistencies in an ep.

Huh...gotta pay attention to that when I watch again. At least it's not
as blatant as some of the screwups (several vampire reflections in The
Freshemn, as well as a nice little game of blanket is up, now its down,
now its back up in there as well..some folks in umtb also mentioned
several reflection issues in Angel S1E1: "City of..")

Not too many goofs, though. At least not that I tend to notice.

True. A lot of the stuff seems to be going on subconciously; the whole
'Little Sister' and 'Little Miss Muffet counting down from 730' thing
jumps to mind. It may be that in the Grad Day dream, Buffy was using the
concious part of her mind, since she dind't understand any of the weird
riddle stuff going on, Faith was going purely on subconcious; maybe the
cat (taking care of itself.) represented the concious mind, the comatose
part of her. The second dream was subconcious for both, probably (I'm
going on the assumption it was shared.) since they seemed to know what
was going on. I doubt we'll ever get clear evidence one way or another,
though..

I think I noticed those in a past vieweing..not any recent ones though.
Can't be bothered to whip out the tape right now, so I guess you'll have
to stay a little confused :-)

And an attractive normal looking person at that: not skinny <> not
pretty. We have proof (not that we needed any :-)

You mean the barbie doll look? Yeah, sort of. Then again, I don't plan
on buying the things, so..I'm gussing the DB one also has too long legs
though.

Short? No, sorry, I don't though a quick search for fan sites should
turn that up pretty quickly.

Right. Then again, Willow tends to wear weird clothes. As to if it's
fashionable now, I don't know (Mir?) I have noticed that early seasons
had a lot of exposure in them (short skirts and the like) You should
keep in mind that it's winter in the Buffyverse (Feb somethingorother..)
so short clothing is out for a while.

Well he is quite tall plus the action figure has a long coat on , so you can
really see the proportions.
And "long legs" isn't considered a mark of beauty for man like it is for
woman. They could have given the Angel figure a ridiculous broad chest or
something, but they didn't.
Overall the Angel action figure is the most real looking IMO

Winter doesn't seem to stop Faith from walking around like
"cleavage-slut-bomb". All that adrenaline most be keeping her warm.
