better...

Yeah well, somebody has to write all those blank lines. And I think that was
done wonderfully. A real masterpiece.

Same difference. The nomination isn't for best lines, its for
best writing of an episode. It is indeed a very well writeen
episode, but somehow I don't think Buffy will get (m)any awards,
given the Emmy's tendency to ignore shows like Buffy..

Yes, that is too bad. Although is it quite remarkable to write an episode in
which there is no any dialogue for over 27 minutes! Perhaps the jury will
award that somehow. And award for best hairdo in 'Beer bad'? Please!

I agree, that"s why I prefer the term 'Outstanding storyline'. Besides, it
is one of my favourites as well. I hope NET5 will continue BtVS soon.

Hehe...it wasn't bad, but I don't think it was that good. Other
nominees in the best hair catgory are the sopranos, that 70's
show, ST: VOY,, SNL and coupla others...haven'seen any of the
other eps/shows in question, so I can't judge them.

Competition for Buffy in the best writing category is:
The Sopranos • Funhouse • HBO
The Sopranos • The Knight In White Satin Armor • HBO
The West Wing • In Excelsis Deo • NBC
The West Wing • Pilot • NBC

Other best cinematography contestants are:
JAG • Boomerang (Part 2) • CBS
Law & Order • Entitled (Part 2) • NBC
The Sopranos • D-Girl • HBO
The West Wing • Pilot • NBC

I'm guessing one of the last two will get a lot of the prizes,
since they're the media's little favorite shows ATM in the USA.
Critics rave about them. We shall see....

Not too optimistic about Buffy getting anything this year...

I think Buffy looked very, very nice as a caveslayer. Some of that is due
to her hair.
B.t.w. at the risk of being burned at the stake. If you get past the fact
that is wasn't the best BtVS episode ever, you can find some good things to
say about "Beer Bad".
For instance the way SMG looked.
Or the scene when Xander finally could give a girl a light and a sympathetic
ear and he just held up a "No Smoking" sign.
Or the way Buffy knocked down Parker. Twice !!

Come on, think very hard. I am sure there are more positive things to say
about even the worst eps (like Beer bad).
Anyone ??

Bye, Rob

Angel is a great show, you fool. SInce you're from france, have you seen
any eps of Angel? The award nomination is for the show, not the
character.

Well, he's good in S1 of Angel, methinks. Not Angelus good, but still
good.

"Writing" doesn't just mean writing *dialogue*, it means plot,
characterisation, etc. It's perfectly possibly (as Hush proved) to an
episode in which nobody speaks for half-an-hour but which *says8 a hell
of a lot.

Sure. Beer Bad wasn't great because the plot wasn't great. But it had some
great moments. The whole awkward Willow-Oz-Veruca moment was great, with
Willow mocking Oz and Vewruca afterwards. And the group-sex misunderstanding
between Willow and Buffy was very laughworthy. And a very funny scene is the
one where Willow was playing along with Parker's scheme, only to ridicule
him afterwards. Great stuff.

I must say, I never judge a Buffy ep bad. Some are just less great then
others. But an episode always has great moments and lines. Even Bad Eggs,
where a Die Hard Buffy climbs out of the monster lair with a pickaxe,
scaring off the Cowboy Vampire. Or Go Fish, with Xander in Speedo's. Not
that I'm attracted to Xander or something, but it was a great scene.

Can't think of more at the mo'. But it's a nice exercise.

Bye, Patrick
