"You get the hell away from my daughter!"

You better listen to a furious and protective mother. Especially when
she's toting an axe. While Spike isn't one to be ordered around, the
blow to his head backed up Joyce's words and the sight of two angry
women was enough even for him to do the sane thing and run like hell.

A good thing he did, otherwise he might actually not have survived the
confrontation. And that would've been a damn shame. Not in the least
because Spike finally got rid of the Annoying One. Which he did in great
style: no big fuss, just hang him out to dry.. err fry. He was supposed
to be a thing of power, as Drusilla confirmed, but the only power I ever
noticed was his ability to bore or annoy the hell out of people, not
seldom both.

I just *love* Spike's introduction scene. I loved Spike's concern about
his princess, I loved Spike not being impressed by that little brat and
I know I'll love whatever he'll come up with next. As an arch-enemy to
Buffy, Spike is already far more interesting than the Master ever was.
Not in the least because he's killed two Slayers back in the days.
Although those probably didn't came with friends and family.

I love Drusilla as well. She's completely bonkers, and that just adds to
her creepyness. She's a wicked vampire, totally unpredictable. She's not
restrained by a conscience or rational thought, which makes her extra
evil. And she has this cool mysterious ability to sense things. Not that
she's senses everything right ("This one has power. I could feel it from
the outside" is what she said about the Annoying One who subsequently
died in the same episode). But she did notice an interesting thing about
Buffy: " I can't see her. The Slayer. I can't see. It's dark where she
is". I wonder what she means exactly by this darkness. Is it just some
supernatural cloaking device every Slayer has, or are there some darker
things to Buffy than we can't see, maybe things to happen to her in the
future?

For now the future looks a bit brighter for Buffy, Spike and Dru's
presence aside. She's won her mother's trust and that's worth a lot (for
the next one-and-a-half week). I guess Joyce didn't see much of what
Buffy was really doing through that hole in the door, but it was enough
to make her mighty proud of her daughter. And mighty protective, not
only towards Spike but also towards Snyder. And Buffy really can use
that kind of moral support.

The best scenes were those of Cordelia and Willow in the closet.
Especially when Cordy is praying and Willow tells her to send for some
aspirin while she's at it. Being locked in a closet with a praying Cordy
is probably a greater torture than being drained by a vampire.

It looks like Snyder knows more about what goes around in Sunnydale then
he shows. Chalking it up to gangs on PCP well he knows damn well that
growing fangs isn't a side effect of those drugs. And if he knows about
the real threats of Sunnydale, what he so ominously calls "the truth",
he might be more than a little imprssed with Buffy for fending off Spike
and his fang-gang. I don't think you want to expel a girl with those
qualities.

Bye, Patrick

I hear you!

Everything we see of Spike in this episode is exciting and promises a
foe with humor, personality and wit. (He seems just a tad too
impatient, but we all have flaws, right?)

The first time I saw Dru I thought "Yay! There's a Malkavian!".

I guess many of you know what I mean but for those that don't, there's
a role-playing game called 'Vampire, the Masquerade' and the myths
there includes that vampires belong to different clans (depending on
who their Sire is).
One of these clans are Malkavians and they are all insane - in one way
or another. I love the Malks most of the clans in the RPG, the
unpredictability is a major part of their charm.

When I saw this episode again not long ago I realized something.
The scene when Joyce sees through the hole in the door is not
unsimilar to the one in 'Restless'.
