Well...i like it.
That said, i don't love it.
I'll explain:
The story takes its time to start rolling, but when it does it's certainly
keeps you interested. The plot line is intriguing and has some nice turns
and
twits. It ends kind of abruptly, but somehow also fittingly considering the
main characters.
However, there are little things that just don't make a lot of sense (to me
anyway). You could ignore them, but if you are a bit of an antfucker, it
might bug the hell out of you.
The main reason for me to buy this book, is my fascination for Spike and
Drusilla. It's very nice indeed to read the interaction between these two
great characters, but i'm sorry say Ch. Golden doesn't manage to keep it up.
The characters keep pretty much one-dimensional and the interaction becomes
repetitive.
This is compensated by some of the surrounding characters, especially the
Watcher's Council. All the action revolving around The Council and it's
watchers are highlights for me.
As many of you already know the story in mainly set around the outbreak of
WWII, so no other characters from Buffy are there, except Spike and Dru.
However, there are some nice little details to tie the book in with the
TV-show.
I've read some reviews that thought the book was too violent. It's
definitely violent, more so then the TV-show, and some killings that take
place are truly horrific. But personally it doesn't bother me that much. All
i can say is: be prepared for some mayor gore.

That is a little bit what I was afraid of. In the series the characters
didn't have a change to get very deep, in just one season. Except Spike
but well, that didn't exactly go the way we had planned ;) So you need a
very good writer to go beyond the series with the characters.

I don't care that much for blood and gore on tv, but in books I can take
a lot more :)
Thanks for this Arkasha. I'll think about it some more...

I saw it today at ABC in Amsterdam for about 70 guilders. That
was a bit to much for me. I did buy the gatekeeper trilogy,
though, for about the same amount of money.

The Gatekeeper is *very* good. Cool Buffy, cool gang, cool bad guys. Cool
plot.
Andrea!
I 've heard you (or someone else) say that before, so I've
bought it solely because you said it was very good. So it
better *be* very good!
:-)
